How to Achieve Your New Year Goals
All top MLM leaders set goals and if you want to be successful in life you must set goals as well.
Today’s training is a brief excerpt from the January 2015 issue of my MLM NATION INSIDER’s newsletter where I dig deep into the 10 biggest mistakes that people make when they set goals for their MLM business.
Biggest Goal Setting Mistakes and the SHORT SHORT SHORT Term
To save you time, I’m going to reveal one of the BIGGEST MISTAKES and why most people quit their goals within 30 days and fail to achieve what they want.
I’ll also teach how the importance of the SHORT SHORT SHORT TERM and how once you learn to focus on it every minute and every hour, you’ll be 10 times closer to making your 2016 goals a reality.
Having Too Many Goals
Most people set too many “big goals.”
They create a Goals List like the way they create a grocery shopping list.
Most people have TOO MANY big goals and don’t realize the number of smaller tasks (or subgoals) that it takes for their BIG GOAL to happen.
So instead of focusing on just one BIG GOAL, they write down a ridiculous amount of big goals that will never happen because there just isn’t enough time.
Think of it this way.
When NASA sent someone to the moon, they don’t also plan to send an international space station, send a mission to Mars… all in the same year!
A BIG GOAL can take at least one year.
It’s way better to decide on ONE BIG goal and then break it down to the smaller steps it requires.
How to Make a Big Goal Happen
A Big Goal is actually many little goals disguised into one.
That’s why you can’t have too many Big Goals.
Just one Big Goal has many tasks that will require time to complete.
So here are the steps to make your BIG GOAL happen:
1) Choose a BIG GOAL
2) Write down all the necessary steps required
3) Determine the next action step and work on it immediately
4) Schedule due dates for the other action steps.
Example of Breaking a Big Goal Down
Here is an example of a common goal that I hear distributors all declare but often fail.
They may be earning $100 a month and they want to jump to earning over $4,000 USD in a month and rank advance.
This is a BIG GOAL because there are many steps that are required.
For example,
How much volume is required to make that happen?
How many signups do you need to average in a month?
How many leads do you need in order to get enough people to signup that many people in a month?
Where will get those leads from? (cold market advertising, flyers, meeting people at the mall, etc?)
Where will you have the time to meet new people?
If you plan to advertise, how do you plan to get the extra money?
How many autoships (maintenance) needs to be processed so that you don’t rely on sponsorships alone?
How many trainings do you have to do a week?
How many leaders do you have to train so that you are not the only one training and duplicating?
How many different meetings do you leaders have to run each week?
Etc., etc., etc.
Those are just some of the things you have to think about!
Now do you know why I say you can only focus only on 1 – 2 BIG GOALs at a time?
How Many Big Goals You Should Have
From my experience, the maximum number of Big Goals one can have per year is 5 – 7.
Some of these Big Goals should be personal, relationship and health goals as well. In fact, I highly recommend it so your life doesn’t go out of balance.
Going back to the previous example of having a goal to earn over $4,000 a month…
If that was your goal, then that should be your business goal for 2015.
The rest of your goals should be in the other areas of your life.
What Determines Whether You’ll Actually Achieve Your Goal
This last step is what most people don’t realize.
It’s the SHORT SHORT SHORT term that determines whether you’ll make your goals for 2016.
Break that yearly goal into shorter lengths of time.
For i.e. if you needed to add 200 distributors in one year in order to earn $4,000 a month, then how many would you need to add in the next 6 months?
Go get that number.
Take it another step further.
How many would you need to add in the next 90 days?
In the next month?
If you do the math, it’ll be 17 distributors a month.
How about in a week?
That means you have to add about an average of 4 people a week.
How many people or exposures do you have to do in order for your team to grow an average of 4 people a week?!
What about a day?
How many invites and exposures do you have to do DAILY?!
You and your team probably have to invite at least 20 people a day in order to sponsor 4 people a day. (Assuming that 15 out of the 20 will say no and you present to 5 people and you sign up 1 out of 5)
So there you go!
The magic number is to have you and your team INVITE at least 20 people a day for 7 days a week.
Focus on the SHORT SHORT SHORT TERM Activity
That is what I called SHORT SHORT SHORT term focus and this last step is what most people don’t focus on and that’s why they fail.
You can break it down even further.
What are you doing this hour?
What are you doing the second you finish reading this?
That SHORT SHORT SHORT term will determine whether you’ll hit your minute goal…
whether you’ll hit your hourly goal…
whether you’ll hit your daily goal…
whether you’ll hit your weekly goal
whether you’ll hit your monthly goal…
and ultimately your 2016 goal.
Your Big Goal and Next Steps
So what are your Big Goals for next year?
Make sure you break it down and then determine what the next action step is.
Know what the SHORT SHORT SHORT term activities are and go focus on them.
Once you’ve determined that, go take action on it immediately!
Wishing you a Happy and Prosperous 2016!
