Learn to use your “Power Hour!”
The Power Hour is the 60 – 90 minute stretch where you are SUPER PRODUCTIVE! Some people get their best ideas and work well first thing in the morning (when it is quiet and people are still sleeping and no phone calls come in)…. for others, it is late late in the wee hours of the night (usually after midnight) where they get super productive and creativity flows.
The Power Hour falls right into the 80/20 rule… where you can get 80% of your results in the 20% of work that is accomplished during your Power Hour.
The Power Hour is reserved for the TOP AND MOST IMPORTANT PRIORITIES of the day.
Why? Cause the MOST important things are the ones that require MOST brain power and least interruptions and that’s why you need the quiet time to focus for them. I leave the admin work to be done when I am tired and less focused. I save my best brain power and the time when I have the most energy for the MOST important things that need to be done for that day.
I find myself achieving TREMENDOUS productivity in my Power Hour. And for me; that time is after I wake up in the morning. I love the early mornings; the earlier the better… I love it because it is still and quiet and there are no phone interruptions… everyone is sleeping and things are peaceful. Many people ask me what my daily routine is and I always start my Power Hour the same way. The first thing I do after I wake up (and brush my teeth or course) is to read the Bible and my daily leadership devotion and then pray. Afterwards I tackle my MOST important task of the day that requires most brain power and that is usually anything that involves my creativity and intense concentration.
Often I spend part of my Power Hour on self development… I can read and learn something 3 times faster in my Power Hour than when I read in the afternoon when I am tired. Sometimes, I do some yoga before that to stretch and wake my body up… this Power Hour lasts about 60 – 90 minutes and is the MOST productive hour of my day. Afterwards, I go eat breakfast and get to walk my dog Obi.
I’m writing this in my Power Hour. In fact, the best time for me to do any writing is always in my Power Hour…
When is your Power Hour?! If you don’t have one, then go find a time where there is peace and quiet (when people, kids and pets are sleeping) and then get cranking and you will be surprised at how much you accomplish!
