February has been a productive but crazy month of traveling.
I was out in Atlanta for my Mastermind for 3 days…
and then 2 days later went to Vancouver for my a week vacation…
And then a few days later, I was traveling again…
This time to Las Vegas!
Training on Being a Better Presenter
I drove the 4 hours from LA to Vegas to attend a presentation training by Les Brown.
I normally don’t travel this much but you don’t get many chances in life to learn from Les so I jumped at the opportunity to improve my skills when the opportunity came up.
If you don’t know Les Brown, he is one of the greatest speakers of all time and in the Motivational Speakers Hall of Fame.
So I had to go to learn from the best of the best.
I consider myself a pretty good speaker and teach a course called MLM Meeting Mastery but my attitude is always if I could learn just one thing to get better, then it’s totally worth it.
And I’m sure glad I went!
Meet the Soulseekers
Before I share the 5 tips on how to be a better presenter I had the priviledge to meet some amazing entrepreneurs who sat in the same table.
We were all strangers when we first sat down but after the 2 days we felt we were lifelong friends and accountability partners.
During the weekend, we came up with the team name, the Soulseekers because even though we came from different backgrounds, MLM has helped us discover a new passion and purpose in life.
Let me introduce to you these special MLM distributors:
From right to left:
Jani Ehlo: Housewife who earns over a million dollars a year in MLM
RC Simon: One of the wisest and most talented 22 year olds I’ve met that is motivated everyday because of his mom
Dan Burdick: Father of 5 who braved a tough emotional period to become an entrepreneur over 20 years ago
Kevyn Kennedy: Amazing lady who went to extremes to save her son
Glen Alex: Has seen herself grow and attain financial freedom through network marketing
Sheila Dancho: Captivating speaker who shared a life-changing moment when she was pregnant and got into a serious car accident
Stacey Prutch: Dynamic lady who was captive by her upbringing and has felt that network marketing has finally allowed her to be the person she really is
5 Tips On Being a Better Presenter
There were so many nuggets of wisdom during the 48 hour event that even though it was 2 days it felt like we were there for 2 weeks.
Perhaps that’s why our team, the Soulseekers felt so close to each other since we spent so many intense moments together.
Here are 5 Tips to help you become a better presenter
1) Use Quotes
Les Brown fills his training and speeches with quotes.
When you use quotes, it immediately edifies you because you are using a third party source to validate your point.
It also makes you well read and educated.
The most impressive part was that immediately after Leonard Nimoy (Spock from Star Trek) passed away, the next day he shared a story and inspiring quote from Nimoy.
2) Never Make a Point Without a Story and Never Have a Story Without a Point
Always use stories but never tell meaningless stories that have no point.
3) 4 Ways to Make Your Stories More Effective
You’ve heard facts tell but stories sell but how do you tell a better story?
Here are 4 questions you should always ask about the stories you tell:
1) What did the audience discover?
2) How did the audience become inspired?
3) How did you surprise the audience?
4) How did you touch the hearts of your audience?
4) Distract, Dispute and Inspire
In every presentation, you have to distract the audience from their existing beliefs or prejudices.
An example would be if they are close minded or think your presentation is boring.
You distract them with an interesting story.
You dispute their objections through stories because stories are the best way to handle objections.
You inspire with stories on the possibilities in MLM
5) Create Engagement by Having Crowd Repeat Words Back to You
Always have the crowd repeat back important phrases or words back to you.
This constantly keeps your crowd engaged and prevents them from falling asleep or getting bored.
Becoming the Better Presenter
Now it’s your turn to become a better speaker so that your presentations can be more effective.
What type of stories do you tell in your presentation?
Do your stories have a point?
Do they distract, dispute and inspire?
Do you get your audience involved?
If you want more in-depth training on how to setup different types of presentations (from 1 on 1 presentations, home meetings, hotel meetings, etc.) and run more profitable MLM meetings, check out my MLM Meetings Mastery course.
