First Step Towards Better Time Management and Extreme MLM Productivity

Time management is a myth because you can not “manage” time.

Whether “time” even exists is another topic altogether and Einstein wrote about it in his theory of relativity but we won’t touch that topic.

What is important is you to realize that you can NOT manage time but you CAN manage your activities.

A New Attitude Towards Time

The biggest change that you must undertake is your attitude towards time.

Most new entrepreneurs and people who join mlm and network marketing treat time the wrong way because we are brought up in an “Employee Environment.”

Definition of Employee and Salary Limits

Our “Employee Environment” has conditioned us on how we approach our income limitations.

My definition of an employee is someone who:

1) Gets a fixed salary regardless of performance
2) Has a salary limit (ceiling) on how much she/he can earn

An employee gets a fixed salary and their salary fluctuates very little regardless of what he does at work.

If he does well, he will get a pay raise at the end of the year.

How big that pay raise depends on many factors like industry, economy, how he is liked at the company, etc.

Even if you add up his bonuses and salary increases, there is always a limit to the maximum amount he can earn.

A commission based employee (such as insurance salesman, sales account managers, etc) is slightly better because their income is closer linked to their performance.

However, they still fall into the same 2 categories:
1) They get a small flat fixed salary
2) Even if they are 100% commission based, regardless of how well they perform, there is ALWAYS a limit to how much they can earn from their commissions. (for example, they can never earn more than the CEO of the company!)

Entrepreneurs however are VERY different.

Time is your ONLY Limiting Factor

Entrepreneurs such as network marketers and people in MLM have ZERO limits on what you can earn.

There is no boss nor CEO that determine what your income or bonuses are.

If you sponsor someone, you get paid.

If you find a way to sponsor 10 people in a day, you get paid more.

If you find a way to sponsor 1,000 people you get paid even more!

The ONLY thing that stops you from being able to sponsor and get as many customers as you can is NOT your desire, not lack of money, nor your lack of skills but TIME!

Desire can be obtained through motivation and focus…

Money can be earned or borrow…

Skills can be learned…

But time can never be gained!

Most people who are new to MLM think that the key to success is to master the skills such as sales, marketing and leadership skills.

But once they learn these skills and achieve some success they soon discover that TIME limits their success.

Their desire makes them want to talk to 100 people a day, and with their skills they can probably sponsor 50 into their business but unfortunately time allows them to talk to only 10 people a day.

Thus their income is limited by time.

Treat Time Really Like Money

Everyone knows the saying “Time is Money” but hardly anyone really treats Time like Money.

To get you thinking I want to ask you, would anyone throw away a random $1 bill out the window?

Or would anyone just drop random $1 bills on the street for strangers to pick up?

Would you do something crazy like that?

I’m sure no one does!

But people unfortunately throw away their Time like it is worthless.

They throw away 1 minute here and another minute there…

And all these minutes then add up to hours, then into days, then into weeks, and then into months and then years of their lives are wasted.

How to Have More Time

The key to having “more time” is to analyze the small details of how you are spending each second and every minute.

So just like you wouldn’t randomly give away $1 here and there, I want you to start focusing on how your time is spent.

Do you randomly throw away a minute to look at an unimportant email that pops in?

Do you randomly throw away another 3 minutes to check the latest status updates on Facebook even though you just did that 15 minutes ago?

I want you to start REALLY TREATING Time like Money.

The next time you do ANYTHING, think about the time you are “Throwing” away.

Start Taking Inventory Today

Just like a money spendthrift who wants to change has to analyze how he is spending his money each day, you MUST start analyzing how you are spending EACH minute every day.

If you want to be really good, you can analyze the seconds but at this point, start just focusing on how each minute is spent.

Time Inventory Exercise

Here is an exercise I want you to start doing today. You will be shocked at the results and after you do this, I will teach you the next step.

Instructions
– Get a piece of paper and timer
– Set timer for every 15 minutes
– When timer goes off, write down on your sheet of paper how you spent the last 15 minutes.
– At the end of each day, look and analyze how you spent your day

Make sure your timer goes OFF.

Do NOT cheat!

It may be stressful in the beginning to have a timer go off every 15 minutes but that is important.

You MUST realize the time that is thrown away.

Just like how you look bank statements, credit card statements, etc, you MUST look at your time statement to see how money is spent.

By the way, just like people who don’t look at their financial statements are poor with money management, people who don’t look at their “Time Statement” are poor with “time management.”

After you do this exercise a few days, you will find yourself more efficient and more conscious of how you spend every minute.

Ultimately, so you can spend more time that matter most to you – whether it’s building your business or more time with the family.
