What is MLM Success?
This is NOT going to be a very popular post.
Cause it goes against many of the common strategies and themes in the network marketing industry.
In fact, many distributors and leaders may hate me.
But I don’t care cause I have to write about this.
I feel that I have a moral obligation to share my thoughts.
As I’ve gotten older I’ve become much more selective in the people I choose to follow and admire. I guess I’ve been burned too many times and had my “heroes” let me down.
I know people aren’t perfect but it’s one thing to make mistakes but another thing if someone screwed up cause they had the wrong values.
And that’s what this post is about.
It’s about values.
5 Components of True Success
I don’t care how much money you make, the nice cars you drive or the size of your mansion.
You are NOT successful unless you have the complete package.
What I do mean by complete package?
There are 5 components to my definition of Real MLM Success
1) Spiritual Success
It doesn’t matter what religion you follow, you must be spiritual.
Your spirituality guides your morals, values and ethics.
It is your compass in your day to day decision making.
It’s not a coincidence that the few friends that I have that are atheist and non Spiritual tend to be the ones that are most cynical and negative.
Sucks for them…
How can anyone be happy and successful if they are spiritually dead?
Your beliefs also motivates you during the tough times.
One of the reasons I chose MLM is because after I read Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren I realized God’s purpose for me was to have a positive impact on as many lives as possible.
And MLM was my vehicle to carry out God’s plan for me.
My journey in MLM was never smooth but knowing that I was fulfilling God’s plan motivated me to keep going.
So are you spiritual?
2) Health Success
You can make all the money in the world but if you are in bad health, you’re losing the game of life. I see many business owners win in business but lose this component of success.
They sacrifice their health to make money…
but sadly after they achieved the money they realize that all the money they earned can’t buy back their health.
If you’re unhealthy, you’ll never get to enjoy the money you worked so hard for because you’ll be miserable.
I know this from painful personal experience.
There was a time that I would sacrifice sleep so that I could get more done.
I highly recommend against making the same mistake I did.
Sleeping less made me cranky, I made more business mistakes and I was just miserable.
Now I do my best to sleep at least 7 hours a night and I feel better and more productive.
I get more things done even though I work less hours.
3) Family Success
I know this well known business guru who has made a ton of money but has been in 4 failed marriages.
He makes millions of dollars but I have no respect for him cause he’s a failure.
Maybe he should stop focusing on his business and pay attention to his wife more…
Or maybe he should spend more time learning how to select better women to marry…
Or maybe he should learn how to be a better husband…
Another famous businessman I know has made over $10 million but his son is the biggest jerk.
His son sometimes picks up his phone and is always disrespectful.
He has no manners and is rude to every caller. No one likes to talk to him.
To me, he has failed as a father.
You can have all the money in the world but he’s not successful because his son is rude to others.
He’s failed as a father and that is more important than any money he’s made.
Maybe he can make a little less money and spend more time to teach his son to treat people properly.
Am I being too harsh?
Maybe.
I’m not out here judging people, I’m just letting you know what my definition of MLM Success is.
4) Personal Financial Success
A lot of MLM leaders fall into this trap.
They joined MLM to get out of the rat race but somehow along the journey their ego and pride distracted them from their original goal.
They may make millions but they have millions of expenses.
I personally know this MLM leader that earns over $500,000 a year but has over $500,000 in debt. (not including his mortgage debt)
Sadly, even though he’s very successful in MLM, he’s worse off than when he started.
When he started MLM, he was earning $20,000 a year and roughly $30,000 in debt.
Now he’s over $500,000 in debt.
The stress of $500,000 debt is WAY MORE than $30,000!
This goes back to your values.
Are bigger mansions… fancier cars… expensive clothes a symbol of success?
To me, no.
They are meaningless and consumerism is a trap.
Materialistic things don’t make you happy long term and they’re just a financial burden.
MLM leaders that drive fancy cars don’t impress me anymore…
I’m more impressed with the MLM leaders that drive the car that everyone else drives.
Learn to live simpler instead.
I highly recommend this famous book, The Millionaire Mind by Thomas Stanley.
The book reported the results of a survey sent to over 1,371 millionaires and do you know what car the average millionaire drives?
Not a Ferrari…
nor a Lamborghini…
nor a Mercedes…
nor a BMW…
But a Ford F150 pickup truck!
And most of them buy it used.
A USED Ford F150 pickup truck!
Real millionaires put their money elsewhere.
True wealth is not about how you many possessions you have but how much you have saved.
I’m not telling you not to pursue your goals…
Go make the big bucks but use it in different ways.
One great way is…
To Give Money Away
One of my favorite things I do now is to give money away.
The more I give the happier I feel.
Wanna know what inspires me?
One of the coolest Instagram profiles I’ve discovered recently from Jeremy Wright is TipsforJesus. This anonymous guy leaves RIDICULOUS tips to people.
Go check it out because THAT inspires me!
Giving makes us happy.
And isn’t happiness what we’re after all along?
If you are hesitant to give money away, that’s one of the reasons why you’re struggling financially.
All the truly wealthy people in the world give money away freely.
Why?
It’s not just the tax breaks and good PR but they know that the better you feel, the happier you get.
It’s really the cheapest way to get happy.
And when you are happy, you become more productive and can achieve amazing things… and miraculously you earn way more than you gave away.
It works like this.
Give → Feel Good → Happy → Productive → Earn More Money
5) Business Success
Finally, there is business success.
It takes a lot of hard work and focus to become successful in your MLM business.
But it can be done because others have done it.
Just make sure your business success doesn’t come at the price of the first 4 components of MLM Success.
One of the best advice I got was to never forget Why you joined your MLM business in the first place.
Too many people forget the reason and keep pursuing the never ending trap of making more money and chasing more ranks.
If your Why was to spend more time with your kids, then please make sure you honor your commitment after you have reached your goal.
