When it comes to running ads to find prospects, most network marketers make the mistake by not realizing that there are 2 types of Advertising. And each type of has its own unique purpose. One type is not suitable for network marketers while the other is perfect for people in MLM.
2 Types of Advertising
1) Branding Advertising
2) Direct Response Advertising
Branded advertising
This is the most common type of advertising you see and is what most network marketers immediately think of.
The main goal is to generate AWARENESS of the brand.
The advertising wants to imbed the name of the brand into the viewers mind so that the next time he is out shopping, he will automatically think and purchase that brand.
Branded advertising is also commonly used to promote product launches. If a company has a big budget and spends enough, it can literally wipe out the competition.
2 Examples of Benefits of Branded Advertising:
Everyone knows the Apple iPad. But can you name 3 other models of tablets made my other companies?
or…
If I say, smartphone, most people will say iPhone. But can you name 3 other models made by other companies?
That is one of the reasons why Apple is killing the competition. It’s not just the product quality (because many will argue Android is better than Apple’s iOS system) but Apple dominates because they have superior marketing.
Some examples of Branded Advertising are:
1) Billboard
2) TV advertising
3) Radio advertising
4) Newspaper ads
5) Magazine ads
6) Goodyear Blimp
Most network marketers are discouraged to do marketing and advertising because they complain it is “too expensive.” And they are right if they are referring to Branded Advertising. Branded Advertising is normally reserved for companies with multi-million dollar advertising budgets.
But people with a MLM business should not give up hope because they have great opportunities in the next type of advertising… Direct Response Marketing!
Direct Response Advertising
This is the advertising that Network Marketers should take advantage of.
The main goal is to get the viewer to TAKE ACTION on an offer.
In each ad, there is a SPECIFIC CALL TO ACTION.
Call to Action means you want the viewer to do something after seeing the ad.
Examples of Call to Actions include:
– calling a phone number to take advantage of a special offer
– giving out a coupon with an incredible offer
– direct mail that contains special offers
– most classified ads are call to action ads
Call to Action are common on websites.
Most websites ask the view to give their contact information on a website in return for something of value (such as a free report download, video, audio, etc). Once the user fills out the form, then the owner of the website has a “lead” or “prospect” and a potential future customer. But that lead is only good if it is contacted or marketed to through either emails, phone calls or direct mail.
Can you see the Call to Action on this website?
The benefits of Direct Response Advertising is that generally it is cheaper and you can get great results with a much smaller budget.
Network Marketers Should Focus on Direct Response Advertising
If you want to learn how to generate cold market leads, network marketers need to learn Direct Response. It is low budget but can bring great returns.
Generally 1 signup can cover the entire costs of running an ad. If you factor in the leveraged income from a signup, then your profit can be infinite.
I have built a big part of my Global MLM business using Direct Response advertising on the internet and is something you should make a commitment to learn.
In an upcoming post, I’ll share the 5 things you must include in order to make an effective and profitable Direct Response ad campaign.

Being as a BA which stands for Brand Ambassador, we are to create awareness of the brand we are representing. Being taught in training before, I was told that advertisement either on tv, billboard or etc could be pretty expensive. So they are now branching out to also having us stationed in hypermarkets/supermarkets to promote their products and giving out samples to try, either for taste or smell depending what product it is. Companies such as Horlicks, Milo, Revive, Nestle, they are all doing it. Compare to an advertisement, we are definitely less costly to pay and what more, it is more personal in ways of marketing… 🙂
