Back home in Los Angeles… great books I’ve read

It’s been like 5 weeks or so since I got back from Asia… Time flies by so fast… it’s nice to be back home in Los Angeles for awhile. The first thing I noticed when I got back from Asia (Hong Kong and Philippines) was how “clean” the air was in Los Angeles! Yes… you Americans will laugh since Los Angeles is known for its dirty air but compared to Asia, the air here in Los Angeles was nice and refreshing! I guess that is because I came from one of the top 5 most polluted cities in the world, (Manila) and also from Hong Kong. (another most polluted due to all the pollution blowing in from the China factories).

It was nice to be back and Kelly and I got to see Obi again. We really really missed him when we were in Asia. Every day we would look at pics of him. My parents in NYC took good care of Obi and my dad would even take pictures of him and email us every day.

Kelly and Obi
When we got Obi back, he was no longer a puppy now. He is a full grown Bichon and also with adult mannerisms now! Look at how big he is! He gained a little weight in NYC (about 17 pounds) but within 2 weeks of LA, I got him back into shape at 15 pounds. He is the luckiest dog. We take him out for walks 3 times a day and I play catch with him at least once a day… and then when Kelly gets home, Kelly plays with him as well.
dog food
Ever since we switched dog foods (we switched to high quality dog food that does NOT contain corn nor chicken by product meal), Obi is so much more energetic now. It is amazing what a difference good nutrition does. We also started to cook for Obi as well. Check out his chicken casserole! We mix it in with his dry food. Currently he is eating Fromm.
Obi rain coat
I was also sick and tired of cleaning Obi’s paws every time he goes out. He would step on wet grass (from dew) and then his paws would get black. So I relented and took Kelly’s advice and got him booties! It is probably one of the best things we did… since it saved me at least 15 minutes a day of cleaning him. We also was thinking about getting him a raincoat but alas, no size to fit him!
Bike trailer
Obi’s birthday is coming up… and we are also going up to bike along the California coast up north… So I got him an early birthday present… a bike trailer! So far, he likes it…

In mid October, I went down to South Carolina for a few days to spend time with my leaders Scott McGee and Laura Sterling. Both are Silver Directors and they got some good stuff going on. It was my first time in South Carolina and it was nice to get some good southern hospitality! We drove all the way down to St. Petersburg, Florida to attend Integritas Unplugged Prospecting training event. I also got to spend some time with Leslie Hickey (who did all the driving) and Dr. Sam Young. The training event was good.

Here the group is listening to live prospecting calls. Each person would talk to leads and the rest of the room would listen. Afterwards they would get feedback from Steve Swartz (Diamond Director), Jason Wells (Emerald Director) and Chris Lopez. (Gold Director). It was very helpful event to the attendees. I went there to see how the training was conducted and was impressed.
running along the beach
Running along the beach with my mentor, Steve Swartz. We stayed on the beach and every morning we would go for a run in the morning.
fun in florida
We also had some fun out in Florida. This is right before we went out. From left to right is Ronnette (Diamond Director), Steve Swartz, Sabrina and Scott McGee. It was a fun night out on the town.

Back home… I was debating on getting a new bike. I got my eyes set on Cannondale’s urban Bad Boy Solo. It ranged from $1100 to $1550 USD. But instead of getting a new bike, I ended up getting my old one totally revamped and fixed up.

simon's bike
My original bike was over $2200 a decade ago but it has been used and beat up… I got new cranks, cassette, chain and bottom bracket and now it runs SMOOTH and FAST!!! The other day I took it a nice 20 mile ride along the beach from Torrance to Santa Monica. Riding is a big stress reliever and also makes me happy for some reason. Maybe it makes me feel like a kid again… I normally don’t take long rides… just short 2 – 3 mile rides around the city to run errands… but it adds up and keeps me fit. Since April, I have ridden over 850 miles! That is more than driving from LA to San Fran and back!

Been listening to a lot of good audio books:
1) Take on the Street by Adam Levitt (some good stuff but very long and boring)
2) Made to Stick by Chip Health and Dan Health (great book… I went to buy the hardcover to read again)
3) Becoming a Millionaire God’s Way by Dr. Thomas Anderson – good to read a Christian perspective
4) Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser – everyone needs to read this. Stay away from fast food! It kills you and also does a lot of other harm to animals, communities and society that you are probably not aware of

I’m currently listening to “Winning” by Jack and Suzy Welch and it is REALLY GOOD. It is a must read for anyone that wants to climb the corporate ladder or in a leadership position. The leadership lessons he gives there can be applied to my business and I thought this was one of the better leadership books I’ve read in awhile

In terms of reading, I am currently reading “Getting Things Done” by David Allen. It is a time management book… so far so good. Now I have to apply it and see how well it works. This was highly recommended to me by many people.

Finally, how about those NY Yankees! I used to be a HUGE HUGE DIE HARD Yankee fans back in the 80s and then got disillusioned by baseball (strike in 94 had to do with it… and so did fantasy baseball)… but after a few years off, I was really back into it this year. I guess it’s another one of those things that brings back memories of my childhood. And no; I am NOT a bandwagon fan… I’ll name more Yanks than you can even name and I’ve even got old yearbooks back home (82..83… etc) to prove it! It was great watching the Yanks win this one. The only thing I could have wish for more was to be in NYC to celebrate!

For those in the USA, have a safe Thanksgiving holiday!

God Bless

Simon

If apparently , you’re under insured at time of claim it can cause problems.

Where Apple Care iphone insurance policies are giving
benefit of multiple year is this: The warranty provides you with two years of Apple tech support versus a few months offered on purchase anyway.
You ought to determine that the insurance policy coverage is often a not worthy
    while for you.
