Reading to Ethan Everyday
I want to share with you my recent “Proud Daddy Moment.”
The secret to my success in network marketing is no secret at all. I just went out and invested time in self development and learned the skills to become successful.
Anyone can be successful. We just have to make the dedication to learn how to be successful. I have seen how reading and self development can change lives in MLM and my wife Kelly and I made the decision that we wanted to teach our son Ethan at a young age its importance.
We made a commitment to read to Ethan everyday and Kelly’s mom who is helping us out with Ethan also reads to him many times in the day.
In fact, even when Ethan was barely out of the womb and a few hours old, we started to read to him.
My Proud Daddy Moment
Thanks to network marketing, I get to work at home and be with Ethan all day.
Recently Ethan was by himself in his play room and I secretly snuck up on him to see what he was doing. And that was my proud moment!
Ethan was sitting there reading his books by himself! Since he can stand now, he already has developed the habit of pulling books off his library bookshelf and keep himself occupied with his books.
I was so proud and happy that I just stood there watching him for over 10 minutes…
If You Want Your Child to Love Reading
I’m not a parental expert but since I am a self development fanatic, I did the obvious and purchased and read a bunch of books on raising children and baby brain development before Ethan was born.
By the way, on a side note, this is one of the biggest mysteries that I don’t understand; how many parents “wing it” when it comes to raising kids or they just raise them the way they were raised… They don’t study how to raise kids and in my opinion raising kids it the MOST IMPORTANT PROJECT IN LIFE!!!
Ok… sorry for the rant… back to the topic on brain developments.
2 Books that I would highly recommend are Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease and Brain Rules for Babies by John Medina. Both books caution that you should NOT expose a baby’s brain to TV or electronics before the age of 2. After the age of 2, the data is still unclear but the results for age 2 is pretty obvious that any exposure to TV is detrimental.
Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease is a great reference book and I applied the lessons I learned in teaching Ethan to enjoy reading.
3 Way to Encourage your Child to Read
If you have a child, here are 3 ways that you can encourage him to like reading.
Just Remember the 3 Bs:
1) Books
Buy them
2) Baskets
Put books everywhere around the house in baskets. Make them easily accessible for your child to pick up
3) Bedtime Lamp
Have books near your child’s bed and create the habit of reading to him every night before he goes to bed. Teach him to enjoy a story from a book
No Idiot Box in My House!
Even before Ethan was born we had no TV in our house. In the past week, research just came out that watching TV reduces years off your life. So not only does TV make you dumber and is the electronic income reducer, now it also kills us as well!
So I don’t have a functional “Idiot Box” in my house. Why would I want something that will harm not just me, but more importantly my child?!
What are You Learning?
So what you are learning each day? If you have children, what success habits do you plan to teach them?
If you are in network marketing, make sure you are studying and learning the 5 Critical Skills. (Mindset, Marketing, No Hype Selling, Leadership, Expansion)
Self Development is the MOST important investment.
As you invest in yourself…
you will change
and as you change
your income and your life will change.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Simon Chan
P.S. NO BS NO HYPE Internet Marketing Training
If you want to learn how to supplement your warm market prospecting with online prospects, I highly recommend this training. Note that you will NOT find the usual internet marketing HYPE. For example, you will not learn how to find 50 prospects a day online. But what you will learn is… the same strategies that helped me become a 3 Star Diamond Directxor. Instead of getting 50 random names that don’t care about what you have to offer, you will learn how to find 3- 5 VERY QUALIFIED PROSPECTS. And out of these 3 – 5, you will find a superstar. In her acceptance speech for the National Book Award for “Just Kids”, the rock singer Patti Smith said,
“There is nothing more beautiful than the book, the paper, the font, the cloth. Please, no matter how we advance technologically, please don’t abandon the book. There is nothing in our material world more beautiful than the book.” After reading Simon’s “My Proud Daddy Moment” I must add that there is nothing more beautiful than seeing a child holding a book!

I can understand your proud moment, Simon. It is beautiful to see a child read and developing the good habit. Like myself I love to read and when my niece or nephew see me read and engross in a book, they are so curious that they too pick up a book or storybook and sit beside me to read. Or they will snug up beside me and ask what I read. It is such a magical moment. For a 1 year old to read, like your little Ethan, sure it will make Daddy proud…btw I don’t think my parents read to me when I was in the womb, but then I simply love to read. 🙂

I too read to my children constantly starting when they were very young and I remember telling them that reading opens “a whole new world.” Now, at 25 and 18, my children are voracious readers with a great sense of curiousity and a desire to learn. Coincidence? I think not. Enjoy the exciting journey, Simon!

Loved this, Simon.
Your little guy is super sweet.
Thank you for reminding me that all it takes to be successful is to invest in myself.
