Productivity as a Full Time Daddy
It’s been over a week now since my mother-in-law left, and I’ve been a full-time Daddy.
I’ve survived.
It’s not that hard!
Actually, it’s all mental. It’s about getting into a new routine and paying more attention to the Time Thieves that steal your time.
Having to be a full-time Daddy and also run my business has reinforced so many of the time management habits that I teach in my EXTREME MLM PRODUCTIVITY REGIMEN.
If I had slacked on anything… this past week has forced me to snap back into super productivity mode.
Otherwise, there would have been NO WAY I could have gotten so many things done.
My New Schedule and Full-Time Daddy Routine
So here is my new routine and schedule:
3:30am: Wake up.
3:30am – 4:15am: Read the Word, pray, and then do yoga.
4:15am – 6:30am: Do creative work—normally marketing, branding, or producing content.
6:30am – 7:30am: Wake up Ethan, and take him to the potty. (He’s almost toilet trained now! Yay!) Then I give him milk, make him breakfast, and feed him so that my wife Kelly can sleep longer.
7:30am – 7:45am: After Kelly leaves for work (She is a doctor.), take Obi for a walk with Ethan.
7:45 – 8:15am: Play with Ethan and then potty training again.
The rest of the day is with Ethan. When he naps, then I either nap or work! When he’s up, we are normally eating, going to the park, or reading.
Ethan does go to daycare two times a week so that frees up the day for me. But starting at 5pm, it’s busy time again.
5:00pm: Take Obi for a walk.
5:30pm: Either pick up Ethan at daycare, or give him a bath if he’s home already.
5:45pm: Make dinner.
6:00pm: My wife Kelly gets home, and we have dinner. Afterwards, the entire family goes for a walk. Then it’s time to read to Ethan and put him to bed.
If I have some extra time, I’ll go and do some admin work, like emails and Facebook. If not, then it’s time to do my five-minute abs workout and then go to bed!
I’ve discovered that getting work done is not hard.
The toughest part is getting to bed on time!
Productivity Tip: Energy Management
I’ll share with you one of the tips that I teach in my EXTREME MLM PRODUCTIVITY REGIMEN.
It’s Energy Management.
Not only do we have to be careful how we spend every precious minute, but we have to watch our energy expenditures.
There are things that drain us mentally and prevent us from being productive.
Some are obvious, like confrontations, and some are not, such as doing creative work or doing sales.
The trick to getting more done in less time is to do the things that require the MOST brainpower during your highest energy hours.
For most people it is first thing in the morning, but for others it is the late evenings.
For me, it is the early mornings, and that is why I do all my creative work, such as writing or creating trainings, immediately after I get up.
If you are tired and have to prospect, go take a quick 20 minute power nap before you pick up the phone.
You will get MUCH BETTER results because you will be able to focus better and be a BETTER LISTENER.
I save the lower energy tasks, such as replying to emails or checking Facebook, for when my energy tank is depleted because I don’t want to waste my “good energy” on tasks that don’t require it.
Going Back to the Happiest Place on Earth
Last Wednesday, I took Ethan to Disneyland again, and we met up with my friend Jeremy Wright. It was another fun day at the Happiest Place on Earth.
I think I love Disneyland as much as Ethan does, and I plan to take him there again next week.
My little boy is growing fast each day, and he is learning new things all the time. Disneyland is more fun now because he knows what is going on and can talk!
Routines Make or Break Your Day
Routines can be good or bad.
In my case, this new routine has allowed me to get as many things done while spending as much time with my son.
Once you are INTO a routine, things get easier, but starting is the toughest part.
For me, it took me about four or five days, and afterwards I started to get the hang of the new responsibilities and routine.
The challenge with a routine is to make yourself CHANGE into a new one.
Whether it is a business, health, or relationship routine, we have to take the first step and adopt it.
That is the toughest part.
What is one routine that is holding you back?
What is one routine that you would like to adopt?
Whatever you can think of, I encourage you to take the first step and do it.
It may be difficult at first, but after a few days, it will get easier.
If you can do it for ten straight days, it will become normal to you, and you will have done something to make yourself better.
I look forward to hearing any new routines you plan to start!
Sincerely,
Simon Chan
