This past Sunday was Veteran’s Day in America, an official holiday that celebrates all the veterans that served in the armed services (military). I don’t always agree with America’s foreign policy, but I have to be grateful for what the troops have done.
Every living person has problems and challenges. I have my problems and so do you. But most of the time, our challenges are trivial compared to what our soldiers face and how they risk their lives everyday.
A bad day for me results in disappointment or frustration. A bad day for a soldier means loss of a limb or their life.
Without these soldiers that protect me, I would not be able to enjoy my freedom, safely spend time with my family, or pursue my dreams.
I am grateful and thankful for their service to the country.
How Can I Serve My Country?
Thinking about these soldiers made me think about how I could serve my country without being in the military.
One of my favorite quotes of all time comes from John F. Kennedy who challenged us with,
“Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.”
I love that quote because it reminds us that we can’t fall into the trap of entitlement.
Instead, we have to be proactive and grateful for what we have in this world of abundance. Our future and unlimited potential can be unleashed only through our actions, not by relying on the government or anyone to help us. Our destiny is in OUR hands and no one else’s.
And one of the best ways to live a more productive, successful and happy life is to help others.
So how could I serve my country?
We Can Serve Without Being in the Military
The more I think about it, I realize that we can all serve our country.
And we don’t need to risk our lives to do it.
All we need to do is to have a goal each day to be better at what we do than the day before.
As you get better, your country gets better and stronger.
It doesn’t matter what career you are in, if you work better, you will produce better and that benefits everyone.
Serving the Country by Helping the Economy
One of the ways we can serve and help our country is to help the economy.
As the economy gets stronger, our country gets stronger.
And we can all do that by becoming better.
If you are a mechanic, go be a better mechanic so that you serve others better and more people will come back to you. Instead of getting their car fixed once a year, your great service and personality will make customers come back more often.
More money will be spent and the economy starts moving.
If you are a dentist, go be a better dentist, or improve your practice so that you get more patients. More money will be spent, and the economy gets moving.
If you are a retail clerk, get better at providing high quality customer service so that people will want to go shop at your place more often.
As we get better, we can make our economy stronger. That is how we can serve our country.
Small Business Owners Can Make a Huge Impact
Small business owners like me, who have network marketing home businesses, can make a huge impact. Ten years ago I started my entrepreneurial career and as my business grew, it has allowed me to contribute to the economy.
My network marketing business has allowed me to create jobs by hiring assistants, investing in computer hardware, purchasing self-development materials, etc.
Last year alone, my business partner and I invested over $20,000 USD in books and seminars.
This all helps our economy.
Our success and growth also allows me to pay more taxes that benefit our country.
I Want to Pay More Taxes!
On a side note about taxes, I will offer you a perspective on taxes that may be different from what you hear.
I want to pay more taxes because if I pay more taxes that means I have more profits and I am earning more. The more you earn, the more taxes I pay.
So having to pay more taxes is a good thing.
I want to pay more taxes than last year because that means my business has grown and I earned more profits.
If my taxes went down that would only mean my profits had decreased, and I would be worried.
Helping Others Become Successful
I’ve never realized this, but one of the ways I can serve my country this year is to help others become successful in their network marketing home businesses.
Over 78 million people worldwide are involved in direct selling and, in the USA alone, direct sales contributed over $28.5 billion dollars to our economy. Imagine the impact on the economy if I help just a fraction of these people become more successful. (Source: Direct Selling Association)
As we approach the end of 2012, I’ve started to work on my goals for 2013.
One of the things I want to achieve is to help more part-time network marketers double their income and eventually have their home business income surpass their full-time job income.
I realize that due to time limitations I won’t be able to work with everyone 1-on-1, but I plan to create a new network marketing email training course that will be free for everyone to join.
Anyone can access it for free, and not only does that help me serve my country, but it also is a way for me to live my purpose driven life.
That is what I plan to do.
Be grateful, and ask yourself, “How can I serve my country today?”
Sincerely,
Simon Chan
