The 3 Key Elements to Using Social for Your Business

Social media…

The thing about social media is that whether you use it for your business or not, everyone is watching.

Social media is and can be an awesome tool to build relationships AND grow your business.

But…

Many times, MLM distributors let social media use them, instead of them using social media.

Meaning, they are wasting so much time with social media doing it the wrong way.

Or…

They fall into some of the MLM social media mistakes…

That is why today, we will be covering the basic fundamentals for social media.

Because maybe you are just getting started in the profession, or, you have your team and wish for them to learn as well.

These are tips that are basic, simple, and duplicatable.

Social Media is Online Just As it is Offline

When you go to an event, or a party, what type of person do you want to be when you go?

Do you just sit there in one corner and not talk?

You probably wouldn’t…

You’d talk, mingle with people.

Social media is exactly the same as offline networking!

One of the major myth is that social media is totally different.

When it’s not…

You’re doing what you do in your normal lives but using a different medium, a different channel.

That is why before any tip or tool you are going to apply…

You want to learn and apply the following when using social media for your business.

The 3 Social Media Elements

1. Be Visible

You want to be visible through your profile, cover photos.

Seems obvious, right?

Believe it or not, there’s a lot of network marketers that make the mistake of not using a photo of themselves.

It’s like going to a party with a mask on and not introducing yourself…

People can’t see you, you’re like the invisible man, invisible woman.

You’re here to build relationships.

The whole Facebook thing is basically a fun big party.

You wouldn’t  go to a party and not introduce yourself, so don’t do that on social media.

Because remember, people buy you first before anything else.

They have to be able to see you and trust you.

If they can’t see your face, then how can they even know who you are?

Two great tools you can use to set up great profile or cover photos are:

Canva.com

You can upload personal images and create/edit them as you like with the templates and designs that they provide. Some templates do cost ($1-$2 US), but most are free, and work on almost any type of platform.

Fiverr.com

Here, all you really need to do is-

Send them an image, tell them the dimensions you want and for what social media platform, and they’ll fix it nice for you. Most start at $5 US.

Now, that is one way you need to be visible…

The second way is through your presence-  genuinely engaging with people by commenting, sharing, messaging, etc.

2. Provide Value and Be Present

Provide value…

One of the most important things you can do is provide value to your audience by sharing something educational, inspirational, or entertaining.

Think about, how do you provide value in normal life?

You make people feel good.

You give tips.

Share an event, a joke, etc.

Online is the same thing!

So…

You are sharing value through interesting content AND being present by engaging with your audience.

Engaging simply means you are genuinely commenting on people’s images, messaging them, etc.

But, DO NOT go and ‘like’ a bunch of people’s stuff just to get ‘likes’ back…

Facebook can recognize that and will penalize you for that.

You share and engage for two reason…

One, you simply always want to be sharing and connecting…

And two, if it’s not interesting and you’re not engaging, you’re just wasting time for yourself and your business.

Why?

Just because you post, that doesn’t mean people will see it.

Facebook can decide not to show it to people if you are not intentionally engaging.

3. Attraction Marketing

Who do you want to attract into your business?

Probably the same type of people you’d want to attract into your life, right?

So, this ties to who you are being.

You’ve got to be comfortable, or uncomfortable, in showing who you are.

Share your lifestyle with people.

Whether it’s fitness, your family, cooking recipes…

Share your lifestyle and mix it up a bit.

For example, one day it can be a business post, the other day it’s a lifestyle post, and the next day it could be something funny.

Don’t be afraid to show people your transformation.

People buy change and it’s dramatic change that gets people interested.

Don’t worry about the past.

It becomes your best stories, or, your weakest point become your best stories.

Where do you stand with social media?

Comment below where you stand, and, how this post was helpful to you.

Remember, whether you are just starting out or not, implementing these 3 elements consistently will bring forward lasting results- for your relationships, and your business.

God Bless,

1 Common Mistake Network Marketers Do, That Turns Prospects Away

When a network marketer is having trouble in their sponsoring efforts, there are either inner obstacles, or outer obstacles that can be holding them back.

Today, we’ll be addressing those outer obstacles and how to overcome them.

Because maybe you are having trouble in sponsoring…

Whether you’re new to the business, or not.

Now, what does outer obstacles exactly mean?

That simply means there is something getting in the way when you’re actively talking to your prospect, that be online or offline.

More often than not, why many network marketers struggle to sponsor is because they TALK TOO MUCH when inviting, prospecting.

Better yet, they are talking too much about the wrong things…

As the saying goes:

“The more you talk, the more you lose…”

Your prospects will always think they have to do what you did to them.

And if you are saying the wrong things, it will simply create resistance and close off your prospects…

So below, we will break down this outer obstacle and offer it’s simple solution.

The Outer Obstacle to Prospecting and Sponsoring

During the active stage of prospecting, a prospect will always think they have to do what you did to them.

That is why the act of talking too much about you product or compensation plans, or any factual information can hurt your business rather than help you.

MLM Sponsoring Mistake- Talking Too Much
As a result, prospects will not join.

They will not join because of how you made them feel of what they’d have to do.

They think that when they get started, they gotta nag and bother their friends.

If you ask most people, they do not like to sell…

Furthermore, they DO NOT want to go out there being pushy, trying to convince people.

So really, when you’re presenting to them, you’re not really selling them about the company or how great the products are…

What YOU DO WANT to do is, simply get them to feel that they can do it.

How do you get them to feel they can do it?

The solution is actually quite simple.

Less is More for Your Business

You get prospects to feel they can do something by keeping the actions simple AND not complicating things by over talking.

That does not mean, say all the ‘right information’ in a matter of a few sentences…

How do you actually keep it simple?

You do that by the act of raising curiosity and decreasing resistance.

You raise curiosity and decrease resistance through edification.

Why?

Think about it this way…

If someone asks you to explain what the movie Star Wars is about…

You possibly couldn’t explain everything about it in a short amount of time.

If you did, you would bore them and it would take forever!

Rather, you would tell them to watch the trailer.

The trailer would be quicker, and do a better job at explaining/capturing the excitement of the movie, wouldn’t it?!

That’s what you have to do in your business- sell the trailer (video, upline leader) that captures the movie.

By keeping the process simple and edifying:

– subconsciously, prospects feel they can do what you did

– it decreases resistance and prospects will be open to your opportunity

mlm-sponsoring-less-is-more

Bonus Tip

1. For those who send videos to maximize edification and prospecting…

Send the video ONLY when the person has time to watch it.

If they’re not ready to watch it, don’t send it.

A lot of times, what happens is they click on it, then they’re checking emails, looking at texts, or whatever.

So, you have to really distract the distractions.

Sponsor More Effectively

1. Keep it simple

The more you talk, the more you lose.

2. When you’re inviting, prospecting, you are driving people towards the upline or video.

Sell the upline, or sell the tool, but don’t sell the business.

Because no one wants to be a salesman… Your prospect always thinks they gotta do what you did to them.

That’s it everyone…

The key to sponsorship is to just focus on creating curiosity and keeping the process simple.

Comment below what you learned, and how this was helpful to you.

Simon Chan

3 Steps to Help You Overcome the “I’m Not Successful Yet” Mindset, In MLM Recruiting

Have you ever wondered, especially when you’re starting new, if you haven’t had the ‘successful’ track record yet…

How can you get people to join you?

It’s like the chicken and egg paradox of which one comes first…

How can you have success if no one signs up?

How can you sign up anyone if you haven’t had any success?

First off…

Success is all relative.

Meaning, what appears to be successful for one person, may not be seen as successful by someone else.

So, you cannot count yourself out as ‘unsuccessful’ just because you haven’t recruited someone yet, or, haven’t made a certain amount of money.

There’s more than one side to success!

We’ll touch on that more and how that helps you, later in this blog.

Now, how you can overcome this and recruit more people?

It’s not a script…

A script alone can only do so much in the many stages of your MLM activities- inviting, recruiting, closing, etc.

Similar to the other prospecting fears network marketers face…

It’s just a shift in steps that can help you overcome the these obstacles, so you won’t feel stuck, and can recruit more prospects.

So, let’s go into these next three steps!

3 Steps to Overcoming the “I’m not successful yet” Mindset

Step #1 –  Awareness and Confidence

Before anything, it’s about having awareness that you are successful because you’re going in the right direction…

Meaning, you’re going towards your dreams and vision!

A lot of times what holds many network marketers back, is the false belief that if they are not ‘successful enough” (haven’t signed anyone up or haven’t made money), prospects will not want to join.

Remember, there is more than one way success can be defined…

It doesn’t matter if a prospect has more money than you.

If your prospect is unsatisfied with their current situation, but they’re scared to take action, you took action already!

Just the fact that you took action, you are more successful.

So stop beating yourself up by  saying, “I’m not having success yet”.

Even if you feel you’re “stuck and going nowhere”…

Feeling stuck is only temporary, because you have awareness of two things:

-What you need to do

-Where you are going

It is through this awareness and vision that will help you break down that false belief of ‘not being successful enough’

As well, awareness of those two things brings forward confidence.

Vision and confidence work together, and that is what people buy from you first.

It is the vision of where you are going that attracts prospects and finalizes closes.

Step #2 – Learning or Earning

If you’re not earning, make sure you’re learning.

One of the common ways of learning is by reading books, attending events, etc. and APPLYING what you learned…

As long as people are learning, what’s gonna happen?

They’re going to earn!

How many of you first started…

Didn’t earn anything your first few months in the business, then, after 20+ people, you got your first sign up?

That happened because you learned and got better from your first approach to the next.

Each rejection, every ‘no’, tells you two thing:

-Where you can improve on

-You are closer to the next ‘yes’

Regardless of where you are as far as recruiting, or in your business, make sure you are always learning and applying!

Two Way to Maximize Learning:

-Apply what you learned from a book, event, etc. within the next 24-72 hours.

-Track the numbers of your activities- call, meetings, etc.

Similar to how Amazon tracks their business’ numbers, tracking your numbers motivates you to stay on course, and shows the direction of your growth.

Step #3 – Commitment and Consistency

Commitment paired with consistency, will bring results.

What is meant by commitment?

Commitment is just showing up.

Commitment is showing up for a training, even if the ‘success’ isn’t there.

You are calling prospects, following up, even if the check isn’t there yet.

Similar to commitment, consistency is about action.

It’s the habits you consistently practice.

It’s when people keep seeing you make videos, they keep seeing you read, or sharing things you learned…

They may not always like, comment on what you share at first, but after a while they become more and more interested.

Consistent action always raises curiosity from people.

Now, people’s curiosity can mean different things…

Some people will be curious but never join or buy from you, or, others may just buy your products.

As well, you will have others who will be curious enough just to see if you ‘fail’.

It sounds like it’s a bad thing, but it’s the world we live in.

There are some waiting for you to fail…

So you know what?

You prove them wrong by keep going, by being consistent!

Because it’s not about them, it’s about the direction you are heading.

Commitment and consistency will bring forward results.

As well, sharing value consistently will attract the right people into your business.

The Next Step

The next step is you.

If you have felt stuck, or ‘not successful’ enough…

Apply these three steps to empower your mindset and actions, because ultimately, it WILL  manifest in your business.

Remember, you are already successful because you are aware and headed in the right direction!

So, what’s your next action step?

Comment below how this was helpful, and share it with your team.

Behind the Scenes of How the #1 MLM Podcast Got Started

Talk about timing!

I definitely didn’t plan it out this way.

We just celebrated Episode 400 with a special episode on Online Strategies that Created Duplication and helped me to grow my business from 1,000 distributors to over 80,000 worldwide.

And we’re approaching 4 million downloads for our network marketing podcast!

Yes!

4 million downloads! 🙂

People had been asking about how MLM Nation got started and how we got to become the #1 network marketing podcast.

So I decided to share with you today on how it all got started…

And it just turns out that I’m writing this in the country where the idea all came from.

Right now I’m down in Australia now at Surfer’s Paradise (Gold Coast, Australia) to run my MLM Nation Mastermind Retreat.  It’s going to be a fun 3 days.

I got in Thursday and immediately had an awesome breakfast meeting with my good friends, the Pajama Bosses.

Afterwards I did a special training for 38 leaders for a network marketing company in Australia.

So how do these Australia events have to do with MLM Nation podcast?!

It’s because the idea for the a network marketing podcast came up 30,000 feet in the air while I was traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney in Oct. 2014.

I love long flights and was brainstorming on how to make a bigger impact.

I always aim to be different (the Purple Cow) and stay one step ahead of everyone else.

And in Oct 2014, I realized the MLM profession needed a network marketing podcast that would showcase all the top leaders in network marketing.

It was the training that I wish I had when I was building.

Maybe you felt this way before…

Before I retired from building MLM in 2013, I found myself tired of listening to the same leaders and speakers at my company events.

Not that they were bad…

They were great but I was just tired of hearing the same people over and over again.

I always wanted to learn from other leaders but when I searched on Youtube, there was so much crap out there that I didn’t know  who was legit and who wasn’t.

That’s when I came up with the idea for MLM Nation.

What if I could filter out who was real deal from the ones who were not and provide the MLM community with a resource that showcased all the top leaders?

Once I got that idea, I was hook and got to work.

The second I landed in Sydney, I purchased every personal development program about podcasts…

I had my team at MLM Nation go through the training programs as well cause I knew this wouldn’t be a one man show.

I went to the major conferences about podcasts…

And we came up with a plan and launch date.

We didn’t want to just come out with something and do it half way.

We wanted to go all out and make a major impact in the network marketing profession and we knew it would take time to get things setup.

We took a full 5 months (from Oct. 2014 to Mar. 28, 2015) to get our show ready.

We got the systems setup, the team in place and started to record in late Jan. 2015.

And 5 months later…

MLM Nation launched with Episode 1 with Dani Johnson.

Lessons from the Launch of Our Network Marketing Podcast

Here are some things I want you to take away from our success.

1) Don’t leave your success to chance.  Make it a choice.

We didn’t just wing it and see “how it goes.”

We went out and invested in every self development program on podcasts and went to events and networked with other podcasters.

We took 5 full months to get ready for the launch.

Episode #1 with Dani Johnson was a huge hit but not many people know that it took us 5 months to launch…

And also 6 weeks of follow-up with Dani Johnson before I got her on the show.

2) Success is Never Solo and Requires a Team

There are 5 people that work on every episode of MLM Nation.

5 people!

Not just me.

I just do the fun stuff and talk to MLM superstars but we have an entire team that edits the audios, makes the webpages, posts on social media, send out the email notifications, etc.

Success is about leadership and empowering your team.

3) There is No Such Thing as Instant Results

We didn’t really start making any money from the show for the first 4 – 5 months after we launched.

If you factor in that the show really “started” in Oct. 2014 when we came up with the idea, it took us really 9 – 10 months before we saw any financial return.

Success takes time.

There is NO instant success.

You just have to keep going and going and going…

4) MLM Nation’s Success Was Expected

I don’t want to sound arrogant or cocky but I’m not surprised at MLM Nation’s success.

It was expected.

I dreamt it, visualized it… and saw it happen.

Of course it didn’t happen exactly the way I expected it…

And we made a lot of mistakes and had to make adjustments along the way…

But I visualized our success in my mind and where we would be.

Never forget what Napoleon Hill said in “Think and Grow Rich” –

Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.

All leaders are visionaries and dreamers.

Do you spend time dreaming and visualizing the success of your business?!

Or do you spend time doubting?

We’re Grateful

I’m grateful to all the leaders in MLM who have been or plan to be on MLM Nation.

Without these leaders, this amazing profession would not exist.

I’m also grateful for you.

For reading this blog.

For listening to our show.

Our network marketing podcast is simply a vehicle that God has given me to live my purpose driven life.

Thank you for 400 episodes!

Thank you for the 4 million downloads!

And finally…

Thank you for being part of this amazing profession and having a positive impact on as many lives possible.

God Bless,

Simon Chan

7 Fundamental Ways to Grow Your MLM Business This Weekend

A Timeless Approach for Your Business

There was a time when the weekends was just for celebrating…

But like many things in life, they change.

Perhaps that has changed for you, and you’ve focused more on using your weekends to grow your business.

Maybe you’ve wondered what should you be doing through the weekend to grow your business…

With technology changing fast, all the new tools, and content that is out there…

It’s easy to get tempted and jump from one thing to another.

Having you feel like your activities have been all over the place…

That’s why this post is dedicated to give you seven fundamental ways to grow your MLM business for the weekend.

These activities are timeless, because even if the network marketing profession has changed through the years, and how we do things…

The fundamentals and simplicity of these activities remain the same.

To be clear, this post is not designed to direct you to a certain path.

Because one, there are COUNTLESS of methods you can apply.

And two, that would rob you of the freedom to choose your own path.

Simply, these are activities that you may already be doing, or, can apply to what you’re doing.

7 Fundamental Ways to Grow Your Business

Fundamental #1- Recaps

Similar to how TV shows have recaps so their audiences can see the events that occurred in that week…

Recapping your week is a simple yet important step for your business.

To recap your week means to take note of some activities and occurrences…

-How did your week go in your business?

-How many prospects did you talk to?

-Did you earn any income or volume?

-What are 3 good things that happened?

One of the reasons why people are stuck where they are, is because they don’t recap what they did and where they’re going!

They just do the business every day but don’t track their numbers.

If you’re on a map and you don’t know where you’re going, it’s very easy to get discouraged, disillusioned, you get impatient.

IMPORTANT- Recap on 3 good things that happened, 3 ‘small’ wins.

It’s important because acknowledging these wins gives you confidence, and helps you focus on the positive, rather than the rejections.

Now…

How much time should you be spending?

All it takes is 5-10 minutes,.

You don’t have to be in planning mode all the time, simply 5-10 minutes on recapping.

Fundamental #2- Targets

Just like tracking your activities is important, so is planning your activities.

As leaders you have to train yourself to think- where are you going?

Think of the targets you’re going to set for your business and your personal life for the following week.

For example:

-How many people am I going to talk to?

-How many follow-ups am I going to do?

Now, most of you have convention goals, yearly goals, but don’t have specific weekly or daily goals…

Weekly goals are the short sprints that help you stay on track for those monthly and yearly goals.

Remember, targets for your personal life are equally as important.

They are important because by hitting those personal targets, it allows you to focus more on the activities that are for your business.

Again, all it takes is a few minutes to think about what your targets are.

It can be is 5-10 minutes of your time.

Fundamental #3- Connecting

People who are good networkers are good connectors.

Go to your database of contacts and see who is someone you can connect with someone else to.

For example, maybe you know a great coach, and your friend is looking for somewhere to have their kid play a sport.

Go and connect your friend with that coach!

That’s just a basic example, but that is to get you to see that connecting is a simple thing anyone can do.

It can be done in your personal and business relationships.

So, don’t worry about someone joining or not…

If done with sincere intent, they will remember you for that.

When you connect you become a person of authority.

People trust you and see that you are a person that is providing value.

If you want to get people to trust you, be a connector.

Fundamental #4- Expanding

This one may challenge you a bit…

That is, go meet 5 new people!

This can be offline in your community like at the gym, or online through social media.

One effective way on social media is by doing live feeds on Facebook Live.

Why Facebook Live and how does that grow your business?

Just the fact that you’re doing video and most people are not, you are seen as an authority.

You are branding yourself better.

Remember, people are buying you.

Not only will people see you differently, but it will create curiosity.

Curiosity decreases resistance.

And ultimately, these activities are expanding your network consistently.

Fundamental #5- The Law of Intent

Now that you met 5 new people, now it’s time to follow up with 5 people.

This can be any 5 people.

Now here’s the thing with follow-ups…

There’s a thing called the law of diminishing intent.

The law of intent means every time you think of something, the longer you take, wait to take action, you don’t do it.

Has there ever been a prospect that you wanted to talk to, follow up with, and then you didn’t talk to them?

The longer you waited, the longer it didn’t happen, right?

So as entrepreneurs, you have to make sure every time you think of someone you have to follow up with, take action immediately.

So what do you do?

If you think of a prospect, in LESS THAN FIVE SECONDS you got to call that person.

Some people know this as the 3-second rule.

When there is someone you want to go talk to- a prospect, a leader, a girl you like…

Count 1, 2, 3, and you go and take the action!

It doesn’t matter if they’re going to say no to you…

It’s the activity that you have to focus on, not the result.

If you keep doing the activity, the result will happen.

Fundamental #6- Invites

Simple enough right.

It’s not anything fancy or innovative…

You go and invite 5 people to look at your business.

Again, don’t worry about the result, focus on activity.

Focus on the activity and don’t worry about the results, because if you focus on activity, the activity is a win.

Fundamental #7- Ping
MLM Fundamental- Reconnecting and Building Relationships

To ping means to reach out to people and simply get to know a couple things:

How have they been?

What have they been up to?

Reach out to 5 people.

You ARE NOT going to present to them, or prospect them.

How many of you have contacts you haven’t kept in touch with in a long time?

Similar to how you can turn cold markets into warm markets, warm markets can also turn into cold markets.

So when you ping 5 people, you’re taking people who you haven’t talked to in a long, long time.

It’s with the sincere intent and reconnect with them.

Facebook is a prime example of where you can do this.

You can comment, like their post, etc.

So your Facebook profile should not have tonnes of things about your company…

You always want to increase curiosity, decrease resistance.

If you have a friend that’s a Steelers fan, simply turn to them and say-

Hey, how’s it going, what do you think of tomorrow’s game?

That’s what ping really means, it’s reconnecting with people.

It’s about building a relationship.

Fundamentals are the Name of the Game

With the constant change in tools and methods, it’s easy to get bored or forget about the basics.

Want to build a lasting business that produces consistently?

Work the fundamentals!

So…

What is ONE thing you’re going to apply this weekend?

Share and comment below:)

3 MLM Edification Mistakes That Turn Prospects Off

The Lost Art of Edification

When it comes to edification, there are some things that network marketers do, and don’t do, that turn off their prospects.

These ARE NOT mistakes related to scripts.

Edification is more than scripts…

Edification is about connecting your prospect with someone or something they can relate to, in some way.

Because maybe you’ve wondered:

How can I get my prospect’s attention?

Or…

Why are prospects not showing up for the 3-way call?

Well, you’ve probably heard the saying- facts tell, stories sell.

With edification, it couldn’t be any truer.

Edification is about sharing a story, it’s about connecting.

A story is powerful because it has the ability to capture someone’s curiosity, and eventually, their attention.

Many times when people don’t show for events or things, it’s not because the event is bad…

Often times it’s because it wasn’t edified properly.

Meaning, it did not get their attention enough to where they wanted to take action.

We want you to avoid these edification mistakes so prospects will want to talk and learn, and not run the other way.

With that…

3 Edification Mistakes to Avoid and What to Do

Edification Mistake #1- Not Sharing a Story

Have you ever watched a trailer that was boring, and that slightly lost your interest towards watching the movie?

Edifying works the same way!

When you edify, stories are the trailers.

Why?

Because stories raise curiosity, they capture attention.

Better yet, a good story is what captures our attention and gets us curios to learn more, to take one more step forward.

There’s a saying that every great network marketer is a great story teller…

And no, this is not some ‘story telling gene’ people naturally possess that makes them good at telling stories.

We all have the ability to share a compelling story!

Since we’re covering edification today, here’s a story-telling formula you can use when edifying that will get and keep your prospect’s attention…

Story Sharing Formula:

–Where was your leader, mentor before they came across network marketing

–How did they come across network marketing

–What was their reaction to network marketing

–How their life has been after network marketing

Simon Chan early internet marketing days
I think I’ve come a long way since my early days…

What makes a story so compelling?

It’s that they are sincere and specific.

IT’S MORE than just saying-

“This is my leader, she’s very successful and makes 6 figures per month, you have to talk to her!”

Compelling stories come from the heart, they are not formal presentations.

Bonus Tip:
A small but impactful shift you can do after you share a story…

Instead of inviting someone to a 3 way-call, you call it to a private call.

Invite them to a private call with your team leader, not, a 3-way call.

The shift may be just a few words, but guarantee you, it makes it so much more powerful.

Edification Mistake #2- Talking More, Edifying Less

Talking more means, talking too much and trying to convince your prospect towards an action.

That action you want them to take may be a private call with your leader, attending an event, etc.

And talking more, often results as talking more in one area and less in the other.

Meaning…

Talking more about the facts of your products or company, INSTEAD of edifying and sharing the story of who you are working with.

Facts and information alone, are not compelling.

When hearing about your leader, a prospect will be asking themselves:

Who is this person and why would I want to talk to them?

Or, why would I want to go to this event?

When edifying, your job is to bridge your prospect with someone or something they can connect with.

It is through this action that raises your prospect’s curiosity and attention, what makes them want to actually listen and learn, to take action.

Network marketing is a profession of human connections.

People don’t join businesses, people join people.

Action step:

When edifying, focus simply on showing your prospect- who you are working with.

Who are you working with, and how can your prospect connect with that.

Edification is about bridging connections Edification Mistake #3- Approaching Everyone the Same

When it comes to edification, one size does not fit all…

Each prospect is going to connect to something different about your opportunity.

That’s why a huge mistake is not listening to your prospect enough!

You have to sincerely get to know what triggers them; what is it exactly that they are looking for.

There are 3 main areas as to why people join network marketing:

-The growth and environment aspect of it- the network, it’s community

-The opportunity for financial, time freedom

-To give back to the community in some way

Now, these are not the only reasons but some of the main ones.

A common mistake is that when people edify, they take the wrong approach.

For example…

Edifying your leader by highlighting their financial success, when your prospect is someone that’s focused on time freedom in order to spend more time with their family.

To edify in such way soon becomes a big turn off for your prospects, simply because prospects will automatically feel a disconnect.

That feeling of disconnect stops them from taking the next step forward.

Action Step:

-Listen, and learn what triggers your prospect.

-Then, edify and share accordingly to that.

For example, edify your leader by sharing a story of how they helped someone on your team achieve that same thing your prospect is looking for.

Remember, your main focus is to find and connect the common ground.

Did you know about these mistakes?

Comment below your thoughts on the mistakes of edification, or, what’s your take on edification?

Want to Close More Prospects In Your MLM Business? Don’t Use Another Script Before You Apply These 3 Tips

You’ve prospected and invited…

Then, when it gets to the closing the prospect…

It just doesn’t happen.

Has that ever happened to you, or to someone in your team?

Getting stuck in sponsoring, especially during the close.

Maybe you’ve struggled on people to respect you to close, or take you seriously…

Did you know one of the BIGGEST mistakes people make is that they prospect in their past or in their present?

Meaning…

Whether you’re new, or maybe you’ve been in the business and you’ve been struggling for a while, you’re letting your current situation, or your current lack of success… Affect you!

There’s something about feeling ‘you’re not successful yet’, that shakes your confidence a bit, and ultimately, it tends to show in your overall approach…

But truth is, not another invite or closing script can cure this.

Rather…

It’s a matter of a simple yet profound mental shift…

The Determining Factor for Executing a Close

People are buying YOU, not your scripts or how good your products or company is…

We hear vision all the time…

But what is vision?

Vision is what you say to yourself, your self talk.

Many people’s self talk is focused on “Oh, I’m struggling”,  “I’m not good enough”, “I don’t know if i’ll ever make it”…

Vision boards are nice but if you go and talk to yourself in that way- is that really going to work?

Like Napoleon Hill once said:

Whatever the mind a man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.
Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. -Napoleon Hill It’s about confidence that you have for yourself, in your vision.

Talk to your prospects, approach them like the way if you were making it big already.

I’m not talking about lying about the income.

But it’s about the confidence, not arrogance.

People want to be lead…

Now that you know the one fundamental shift to closing prospects…

You can maximize on the next 3 tips…

3 Tips to Closing Prospects to Your MLM Business

MLM Closing Tip #1- Connecting

This first lesson is about connecting.

Different people connect with different type of people.

Maybe a prospect connects more with you than they do with your mentor…

And that can be because of shared interests, similar backgrounds, etc.

For example…

Let’s say you’re a sports fitness gal, and this prospect was a trainer.

You both got along well, even though somewhere your mentor didn’t connect with him or her.

Who do you think that prospect will feel more connected with, furthermore, more likely to say ‘yes’ to?

YOU.

So…

Two key points to maximize closing:

1)  Connect your prospect with whom he/she will have more of a connection with: are they in similar career paths, are they stay at home parents, etc.

2) If it is you they connect more with: Aside from being able to connect with them, be the person they want to follow.

MLM Closing Tip #2- Break it Down

Break down the objection your prospect may be giving you.

Before you give a scripted response…

Realize that this objection is because they don’t see the value and they’re mentally afraid of the loss.

A way to overcome this fear is to break down the ‘large’ cost (objection) of the initial investment and put it into simpler, ideal terms by breaking down the numbers.

And remember, more information about comp. plans is not how people buy in, but rather how confident you are.

This is called the Breaking Down Close.

Let’s say your prospect Jessie has the classic ‘money objection’ for the initial $700 investment  to the business…

And you’d make sure they don’t have any other thing aside from the money that is stopping them from getting started.

You would ask your prospect:

How many days are in a year?

The response would be 365 days…

You’d then break it down further and say something like:

In two years that’s like seven hundred thirty something days right, so just say in two years.

Here’s how you’d break it down:

Jessie, you’re a hard worker, you look like a hard worker…

Are you willing to invest a dollar a day, that’s seven hundred dollars to the seven hundred and thirty days in two years, so, are you willing to invest a dollar a day for the next two years to be financially free?

Now, you don’t have to follow this word for word…

The point is to BREAK DOWN their resistance, objection, into simpler terms/numbers… And show them the vision and value of the payoff!

This break down close is not just for the money objection to the business, but you can a apply this to the money objection of the products, or even to the ‘I don’t have time’ objection…

How?

Break down the cost of the product and show them how cheap it is for healthy nutrition per day, or, if the time objection…

Break down the only available time they have, and if they work the business for those hours each week, in 1-3 years they can set themselves financially free (or whatever their WHY is).

The 2 key points to maximize closing:

1) How confident you are in your questions, your overall approach to get them started.

2) Breaking down their fear, objection into simpler, ideal numbers that then shows them the vision of the value

MLM Closing Tip #3- Weekly Goals

You have to have a weekly deadline, a deadline that creates urgency to hit your weekly goal…

A weekly goal can be how many people you sponsor in a week, or hit a certain amount of sales, etc.

Because fact is, if you don’t have goals you don’t have a business.

You see this in department stores, restaurant, etc.

Macy’s, Apple, they all have quotas, sales they set to be met by the end of the week.

How does this help in closing exactly?

Weekly goals help in your closes because the urgency is working in tangent with the actions you’re taking.

Those are the actions of connecting prospects with whom they will most connect with, breaking down their objections and showing them the vision of the value.

Also…

Weekly goals are a profound way to respond to the question prospects sometimes ask-

Well, how much money are you making?

Has that ever happened to you?

You don’t lie to them…

You respond to them by simply saying-

I just got started but I’m getting there, I have goals and i’m getting to six figures.

Maybe it’s not six figures and it’s something else…

It’s not what you say, but how you say it.

The point is that you’re speaking with vision (your self talk and belief) of where you will be, not where you have been or where you’re currently at.

What’s your self talk when closing prospects?

Are you prospecting and closing like someone who is ‘stuck and struggling’, or like a top earner would?

Because you can have the ‘perfect scripts’ that can handle any objection…

But, it’s the confidence and the self-talk you carry that truthfully executes a close at the end of the day.

So…

How will you approach your closes differently?

Kids Teach Us Many Things; Here Are 3 MLM Leadership Lessons from My Son

Kids teach us many things!

Good or bad… kids remind us of what’s happened or who we’ve become.

I know you may not like to hear this but if your kids haven’t turned out how you wanted them to be, it’s a reflection of you and the environment that you’ve put your kid in.

Whether you raised them or they developed bad habits from someone else, you put them in that situation where they were conditioned and programmed to think and act a certain way.

That’s the scary thing that I have to remind myself everyday…

And it forces me to be better each day.

I admit it that I’m far from perfect.

And I see the imperfections in my kids.

And their faults can be traced to ME.

From the times I lost my temper or the ways I acted…

I see it in my kids.

ALL of it.

They model us 24/7.

The good and the bad.

Fortunately for my 3 boys, there’s more good than bad.

And it’s one of the reasons why I’m super grateful for network marketing.

One of my fundamental beliefs is that network marketing allows us to be better parents because we’re always leading by example and creating that legacy.

Our kids model what we do and the pre-MLM Simon was different from who I am today.

Thanks to the network marketing profession, I’ve been more grateful, more humble, developed success habits and gave up television.

So fortunately my kids are growing up in a much more positive environment now.

3 MLM Leadership Lessons My Son Reminded Me Last Week

Last Sunday was another super proud Daddy moment for me.

My oldest son, Ethan had a great baseball game and here are 3 things he did that reminded me of who we must become.

I taught him these things but I’m human and sometimes I forget.

He reminded me not by telling me but by his actions.

Which by the way how is Leadership works.

Leadership is caught, not taught.

Here is what he did and the lessons

1) During Tough Times, Stay Calm, Relax and Visualize Success

In his first at bat, he had a rough time initially.

He swung and missed the first 2 pitches thrown at him.

Down 2 strikes just like that…

But instead of getting nervous or reacting…

Ethan stayed calm.

I saw him step outside the batter’s box and he relaxed…

He closed his eyes to visualize…

And then he went back in to face the next pitch and he immediately hit the ball!

I was so proud of him!

Now back to you…

During tough times, do you stay calm and visualize your success?

Do you go back and think about your Dream Board or do you go back to what just happened and why “you’re in a rut?”
My son Ethan, staying focused at bat in baseball game

2) Being Present and Not Focused on Distractions

On his second at bat, he ran and slid into first base and scraped up the skin on his elbow.

Instead of crying and complaining… he just looked at it a few times and went back onto the field the next inning.

He played shortstop and during the entire inning, he didn’t let his elbow distract him.

He was present in the game and paid attention to every pitch.

When we are in pain or discomfort, are you present and aware of the opportunities around you?

Or you do easily get distracted by the negative things that happen?
Staying focused and in the present moment despite distractions

3) Champions Are Made When No One Is Watching

This one made me the most proud! 🙂

Ethan had a great game that lasted over 90 minutes and afterwards instead of going home like the rest of the kids, he wanted to go back to the batting cage for extra batting practice.

It was late and we had to go home but how could I say no?!

So we went back and I pitched to him for another 30 minutes.

His great grandpa was there as well and super proud of him.
Do the extra even when no one is watching; lead by example

From every great athlete to entrepreneur, champions are made when no one is watching.

It’s easy to put on a show when people are watching you.

But what do you do when no one is watching?!

Are you working on your skills?

Are you being consistent?

If you have a team, a great question to ask yourself is,

If you downlines did what you did today, what would happen to their business?!

It’s Your Turn To Create Your Legacy

I feel I’ve grown so much as a parent in the last few weeks and it’s been really rewarding.

It reminds me of the opportunities we all have to create a legacy that lasts beyond our time.

What are you doing to create your legacy?

I just shared with you 3 things that my son did.

Which one can you apply more so that you can be a champion today?!

Ultimate Content Creation Routine: How to Easily Create Content That Establishes Authority In Your MLM Business

Creating Consistent Online Content

Creating content…

Authority…

You know online branding and marketing is important, but how do you actually create that content?

Maybe you follow MLM Nation or other leaders…

What do they do and how do they do it?

Perhaps you want to
attract prospects into your business instead of chasing after them.

Well today, you’ll be getting 4 secrets to create consistent content and good authority.

But why is authority so important?

Because we’re conditioned since we were kids to follow people of authority.

Just think about it.

When we were kids, you listened to your parents.

Parents have authority.

Then when we grow older, we grow bigger and then we go to school, we also follow authority there – teachers, professors, etc.

These are people who teach, or move us in some way.

We grow to listen to what they have to say…

So, tying this back to our topic today…

One of the ways to create authority is through online content.

The content, value you provide can- inform, inspire, educate or entertain.

If you follow Simon Chan or MLM Nation, you get to see how content is created really quickly.

It’s what I call my authority content creation routine.

And when you create a system to routinize things, things become real easy!

Now, let’s talk about authority.

A great place you can start is with your personal Facebook page.

What’s recommended, is to start with your personal page first…

But, you need to have content!

So…

Here’s:

A 4 Step Content Creation Routine

Content Creation#1- Think of Your Passion

It starts with your passion.

What is your passion?

So, not necessarily about your company…

But rather, think about what you like to do.

When you talk about your passion, it is easy to create content because it’s easy for you to talk about it.

And normally, when you’re passionate about something, you’re going to do self development, right?

So think about it, if you like basketball, you’re probably reading about basketball.

Or, if you like music, you’re probably doing some type of reading with blogs or stuff about that…

In your passion, the key is to provide and share value, consistent good content.

For example, create training tips, how to be a better basketball player, how to be a better swimmer, how do you be a better guitar player.

With so many niches, the possibilities are quite endless…

Now you may think, how does this relate to your network marketing business?

A LOT.

Because when you create a following, you create an authority, you create an audience, you become a ‘celebrity’.

You can become a ‘celebrity’, a person of authority in that niche.

So don’t think that, “I’m not good enough to be a celebrity.”

You become a celebrity when you provide value.

Then later on, you can also recommend other things, and people will look at it.

So remember, we all have something that we’re passionate about.

Content Creation#2- Think of Themes

Think of themes or topics!

Now here’s the thing that people miss…

And that’s when they think about, “How can I create topics?”

For some, they drive themselves crazy thinking, “What should I be talking about?”

Or, try to come up with a topic on the spot before posting!

Remember, think in terms of your passion and create themes off of that.

Say you want to write about kids.

Take 10 minutes and sit there and write down at least five topics about kids.

So, some topics could be, maybe raising kids, taking care of a baby, choosing schools.

Putting them to bed…etc.

LOTS of topics.

Here’s a bonus tip on that:

You know, you’ve heard of the right brain, left brain, yea?

Allow your creative side to work when listing themes for content, then go back and edit, research (logical side of brain).

The left brain is the logical brain. The right brain is the creative brain.

When you are listing these topics/themes…

You have to shut off social media and all that type of stuff when you’re creating content.

You also never edit, or do research when you’re creating content.

You’re just listing ideas as much as possible.

The reason why you don’t want to do these things is because while you’re being creative and listing ideas, the logical brain screws up your right, creative brain.

Because editing, doing research, is what part of the brain?

It’s the logical, left part of the brain.

For example, remember back in school, or sometimes even if you’re creating a website and you have to proofread something…

And then after you proofread it, you still couldn’t see a mistake.

Then the next day your friend says,

“Oh, that’s a typo”…

And you swore like,

“I proofread it ten times! I didn’t see it!”

Tell me how many of you have done that before?

When you say you wrote something and you believe that you didn’t miss the easiest typo or grammatical mistake.

The same goes for if you ever want to come up with headlines or topics for your Facebook post, DON’T interrupt your creative moment to research or to edit.

Write it down, if you want to edit it, wait a little bit, then go back and edit.

Content Creation#3- Facebook Lives

The third thing to content creation is you can do a Facebook Live.

And there are several reasons to do Facebook Lives…

-Facebook lives are hot right now.

Now, is this party going to last a long time? Yes, I actually will be on a long time.

Facebook’s actually going to run advertisements for FB live soon. Facebook wants to take over TV.

-You instantly become an authority.

Let me ask you, most people, are they comfortable doing video?

If you ask most of your friends, “do a live video right now.” What would they do it?

They’ll get nervous. So just the fact that you can be on camera, instantly people will start respecting you.

-You get good at prospecting

You get better simply because you will be consistently engaging with people.

And, you’re self-esteem will go up.

How many of you have actually done a Facebook Live before and felt self esteem?

It goes up because you’re doing something that once made you really uncomfortable.

Through Facebook Live, you’re going to get really good in these areas and be a perceived expert.

You’re going to be a true big-time expert when you do these Facebook Lives because you’re going to end up talking more and more about it.

Over and over again…

It’s a cycle.

So when you get good at it, you get more authority.

This is what I call the authority content creation routine.

Content Creation #4- Blogs

B-L-O-G.

So here’s the thing…

When you take your Facebook Live we talked about, the next part is you can transcribe it and make it into a blog.

If you have a blog, you have instant credibility.

A blog is good because it’s evergreen. Evergreen, means it lasts forever…

Facebook Live is awesome, but reality is, Facebook live is not going to last forever.

This feed, sooner or later, will die down.

Another reason why a blog is good is because YOU OWN IT.

Facebook Live, for whatever reason, even if out of our control, can shut you down.

End of the day, it’s just like a landlord. A landlord can kick you out, sell the house or whatever.

But when you have a blog on your own domain, you own it.

They can’t do anything.

Now, question is, do people still read?

And that’s a great question…

Not everyone reads now, right?

But you could put your videos onto, embed them onto your blog.

Here’s an example of an embedded video in our previous blog- How to Overcome Anxiety in Under 3 Seconds

Some more ways blogs can help your MLM business:

Blog pages can serve as a platform for team trainings-

For example, if you have a big following, create trainings on a blog page, and every time you create training, send people there.

Once you have a website, every time you have a new training announcement, you can send people to your website.

Blogs can drive your email list-

The email list is the money, every time someone sends out an email, they make money.

For example, with prospects…

You get a prospect, put them in, drive them to the website, and they’ll get emails from us.

Now, of course, not every prospect is going to read the email, but the ones who are serious, they read every single email.

That’s one way you can sign up a lot of people

As well…

If you look at the big companies, they send emails.

Take Macy’s or Apple for examples…

A lot of you probably have done online shopping, stuff you shouldn’t be buying, right, because of emails.

You follow companies you like, etc. and you sometimes buy from the information, updates, they send you through emails…

Content Creation Routine Recap:

1. What is you passion, or, something you’re curious about.

2. Create and batch themes

3. Maximize on Facebook Lives

4. Leverage Blogs

Were these steps helpful?

Or maybe you already have a routine going…

Either way, share by commenting below, and what you will do next.

God Bless,

Simon Chan

Scared to Prospect? 3 Truths to MLM Prospecting That Will Change How You Prospect Online and Offline

So tell me…

What scares you about prospecting?

Is it the fear of what your friends, prospects will say?

The nervousness and anxiety you get by just thinking “how should I approach them”?

Or perhaps…

It’s the thought that you’ll burn through ‘your friends list’, and then what right?

Or maybe… Just maybe…

You feel you already talked to all the people you know!

Well, two thing are for sure here…

One, is that you are not alone on this.

These fears happen to us all.

And two, YOU CAN get through this roadblock.

Through this post, you will learn 3 truths that can break down these fears and change how you prospect online and offline.

3 Truths to MLM Prospecting

Truth #1

You know who you know:

You know who you know on your contact list.

That’s an obvious one.

These are people who are in your phone’s contacts, in your social media friend list, etc.

People that you are aware of that you know.

Well, you gotta contact them…

Now, did that thought just make you a bit nervous?

If you’ve been nervous in contacting your list, here’s the thing.

The one deadly mistakes that people make is that they feel that they have to try and convince everyone!

Let’s start off with a  fundamental concept here…

(Which you probably have heard me say it 1,000,000 times in the course of my trainings, live videos, etc.)

And that is:

The purpose of the contact list is not to convince people to join your business.

Your goal is to let them know you have a business.

Isn’t that such a relief?

To know and be able to say that to yourself!

If you think you’re going to convince, that makes you nervous because you’re attaching yourself to the result.

REMOVE yourself from that result.

Instead, focus on the activity.

Your goal is to let them know you have a business, not try to convince everyone to join…

If you get over that, you will feel a lot better.

You get to release and let go of that nervousness, that anxiety.

Ok, now that we’ve covered this 1,000,001 times;)…

Here’s a simple, applicable tip you can implement when approaching your list either online or offline:

You can practice on people.

What does that mean?

Literally what it sounds like!

You have a friend, or someone you know…

So, you can talk to your friend and say:

“Hey, you don’t need to buy anything, but can I practice on you? Can I practice my approach to my prospects on you?”

See what they say, okay?

And you just go from there…

Approach and invite.

When you practice on people, a lot of times, believe it or not, some of them may actually join to support you after they see how much hard work you’re going through.

They can see that it’s more than just a ‘get rich quick’, that this is something serious.

Truth #2

You do not know who they know, that knows you:

Okay, that may sound like a tongue twister.

But here’s what that means…

So, you have this friend..

You know Bruno, and Bruno has a friend named Mars that knows of you.

But, you don’t know that friend Mars directly, right?

So this, again, is a great source for referrals!

How?

Because you and Mars may not be close, you’re definitely not close friends or even friends.

Maybe acquaintances.

Or they just know of you…

But, although you don’t that person directly, they know you through your friend (in this case Bruno) whom you do know.

How does this help you?

Because you probably didn’t try and convince Bruno to buy or join, you just simply let him know you have a business…

It helps in these two ways:

  1. Bruno can REFER YOU, introduce you to that person that knows you but you don’t really know yet…
  2. It adds to your list– whether online or offline, for each friend you know, that’s actually 5+ more extraordinary people you have the opportunity to get connected with.

That’s why you have to reach out to people.

Reach out to ‘those that you know you know’- your friend list.

Your contact list is actually a lot, lot bigger than you think!

Truth #3

You don’t know who knows you:

And this is more through social media.

You don’t know who knows you.

This is a big one.

Many don’t realize this is a huge untapped market!

You don’t know who knows you.

So, meaning like, there will be Facebook friends out there, people out there, who are not your Facebook friends, but they know of you.

Right?

And this is the part where you have to really be about- online marketing authority.

The consistent content of the value you produce in the market place.

Always remember that.

You always get paid for the value you give to the market place.

If you’re giving value, people will come.

So, you don’t know who does know you…

That makes you think about your Facebook contact list very differently.

Whether you are aware of it or not, people are always watching!

And these people can know of you in various ways-

I.e- a Facebook live you made and was shared, or some valuable post you made that someone came across, etc.

The point is…

You never know who is watching your content.

Even if someone didn’t like or comment on it…

It could be something you share on a given day that resonates with them in some way.

Never go on a day without providing value…

So, every day, here’s a goal:

If you’ve learned something, take what you learned and you share…

One of the best ways to get good, and become an authority, is to take what you learn and share it.

Now It’s Time For Action

Whether online or offline, how have you approached prospecting?

If these truths gave you new insight, go and apply these lessons right away!

Comment below how this was helpful to you… Talk to you soon:)

God Bless,

Simon Chan
