A Simple Way to Explain the Difference Between a Business and a Job that Your Prospect will NEVER Forget

The Difference Between a Business and a Job

If a prospect understands the benefits of a business over a job, it is much easier to show him the value of a network marketing business.

But how do you explain the difference between a business and a job?

And after the way you explain it, do your prospects really understand the difference?

Understanding the Difference

You already know the benefits of a business versus a job because that’s why you decided to start a network marketing business.

A business has the potential to create passive income and allow you to retire early while a job does not.

In other words…

When you have a business, you work on achieving your dreams.

while

When you work a job, you are working to help someone else achieve their dreams.

I was fortunate to learn this valuable lesson at a relatively young age when I read Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki or otherwise I would still be slaving away at a job today. If you have not read that book, it is a must read and 1 of the Top 6 Books that had the greatest impact on my life.

Explaining the Difference Between a Business and a Job

It’s important for our prospects to understand the difference so that they can see the potential that a network marketing business can provide them.

But what happens if your prospect doesn’t really understand what passive income or financial freedom means?

Sometimes, those concepts are so far fetched that you can explain it to them but they don’t really get it.

Have you ever had a prospect like that?

Well here is a simple and easy way to explain the difference and the best part is that your prospect will NEVER forget it!

How I Came Up With this Explanation

I came up with this explanation many years ago in one of my evening Mastermind sessions.

One of my distributors was frustrated because his prospect wanted to make more money but he could not get the prospect to see that he needed a business and “not another job.”

So in our Mastermind session, he vented his frustrations and somehow magically I came up with explanation.

That’s why Masterminds are so important. You get amazing ideas and solutions when you bring motivated people together.

How to Explain in a Simple and Memorable Way

So this is what you say to your prospect if they say they want to make more money but don’t really understand why a business is what he needs and NOT another job.

After you find out what he does for a living, you ask him:

___________________________________________________________________

YOU: Do you work hard at your job.

PROSPECT: Yes. (of course he will say “yes”)

YOU: That’s good. I’m sure you are paid well but are you getting rich at your job?

PROSPECT: No.

YOU: Well, then, who is getting rich?

PROSPECT: The owner who I work for.

YOU: The owner owns the business right?

PROSPECT: Yes.

YOU: Well, do you see the difference now between having a business versus having a job? Who gets rich?

It’s as simple as that!

The best part is your prospect will remember the lesson forever

Even if he does not join you right away, he will remember the next time he is working hard at his job and frustrated at his income.

The concept of a business will get more and more attractive the more he works at his job and thinks about his income.

Why This Simple Explanation is Effective

This explanation works because the prospect came up with the answer himself.

You simply asked questions and helped him see that his solution is a business and not another job.

Successful prospecting occurs when you guide a prospect to the solution and not simply TELL them.

No one likes to be told and people are always suspicious.

No one really listens nor trusts what we have to say because deep down they know we are trying to get them to buy or do something. We are “salespeople” and all salespeople are liars

But if we learn to ask and guide them to the solution, then it is always true because they came up with the answer.
