Pictures from Asia: What I do for a living

Many people often ask me what I do for a living and what type of business I am in.  There are many ways to answer this question and it is never a straightforward question.  I can say I am a motivational speaker and help people earn extra income with a part time business… but there is more to that.  It is not just teaching people about how to make money but more importantly, it is mentoring others and guiding them to maximize their potential.  Along the way, I help people make money… and I get to have tons of fun and create lasting relationships.

I just got back from a 2 1/2 week trip to Asia and the pictures here will give you an idea of what I do.  It was a packed trip where every minute was maximized and productive… it was a ton of fun!

Here are the highlights:

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

Suren and Sanjay
I landed in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, Oct. 9 and immediately spoke at a training session. Afterwards we took a late night “red eye” drive to Penang with a few of my partners. Here is Suren (in blue) and Sanjay who was visiting us from Singapore. My purpose for this trip to Malaysia was to mainly support Suren and help him advance to Gold Director ($1,000 USD weekly) in his home business. Suren and his team has tremendous potential and my time in Malaysia was time well spent.

breakfast in penang
Breakfast in Penang with my new leaders: Johnny Low, Sanjay and Suren. The hand over the ear is their team sign but don’t ask me what it means!
Golden Retriever
I stayed at Ann’s house in Penang. Not only did I get great hospitality but we got to meet their superstar Golden Retriever, Champ!
training in penang
Training session at our Penang Centre. Here, Suren and Aruna are about to share their team vision
Connie and Yangyang
After training, my “little sister (妹妹)”, Connie Mooi met up with us. Here she is with precious “Yang Yang”
Indian Food
It was my first time having authentic Indian Food! It took me awhile to get used to the spice but it was good and very flavorful!
great indian food
Thanks to Roma and her husband Anand for the great service, hospitality and great Indian food at “Palace D India”

LUMUT, MALAYSIA

Lumut
After Penang, Johnny Low and I went off to Lumut to meet a few people. This was the first time I drove into the Malaysia deep country, or what they call the “kampong”. While driving through, we would see wild monkeys along the road. This was the first time in my life I saw WILD MONKEYS! Can you find the monkey in this picture? (click on image to enlarge)
Lumut structures
Driving through Lumut, we saw tons of these structures. These structures is where they cultivate sparrows nest which is a huge Chinese delicacy. They would lure the sparrows in with whistles, chirping and music… all to hope that the sparrows would build a nest. The nest is supposedly to be good for _____ and is sold at a very high price
sparrows
This is how a Sparrow’s nest looks like before it is cleaned up and sold to the market. Just this crate here could be sold for thousands of USD dollars!

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

Simon, Yeknee, Munwai
After Lumut, it was back to Kuala Lumpur.. I took the time to catch up with some good old friends; Yeknee Tan (left) and Munwai Lee
Cat stucked
One night we walked past a car that was parked in front of a store and heard this meow… turned out that a cat was stuck in the front bumper of a car! First time I’ve seen anything like this. Initially people didn’t bother but after I took a few pictures and Devan talked to the store owner, they were able to get the cat out.
meeting at coffee shop
On every trip, there are good stories to tell. This was a meeting with Aruna’s friend, Sasi and his wife. We initially met in Starbucks to share with him our business opportunity. We were excited and talked… and talked… and then Starbucks closed at 11 so they had to kick us out… so then we went outside of Starbucks in the mall area and kept on talking and talking… and then they finally had to turn out the lights on the mall to drive us out! But we still stayed there and talked and talked and talked! I think they finally gave up and turned the lights back on. We were unstoppable! Persistence wins out again!
Simon with college friend
Catching up with a good college friend from Columbia, Zack Amin. Zack is a budding entrepreneur and took me to Putrajaya for lunch. Putrajaya is the state capital and is very beautiful and clean with great architecture

SINGAPORE

Singapore meeting
Next stop was Singapore… Had a very productive day of meetings. Afterwards it was time for some fun and Suren took me to watch my first full soccer match ever! It was Manchester United versus Liverpool. I couldn’t believe how popular soccer and Man United. Every restaurant and bar we went to was PACKED! It was like the Superbowl in the USA except that this was just a normal match! We finally found a place where we could get a table
Suren watching
Suren is a diehard Man U fan… how diehard? Can you believe that he has NOT missed a single match in over 14 years!!! He has watched from kick off to end of EVERY SINGLE MANCHESTER UNITED MATCH IN THE LAST 14 YEARS!!! …. talk about dedication. No wonder he looks so intense here!
Simon and Suren
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLLL!! – Suren is ecstatic after Man U scores and ties the match up. Good thing Man U came out of the match with a tie cause it would not have been fun to hang out with Suren for the rest of the night if they had lost
Singapore airport
Now I know why Singapore Changi’s airport has been acclaimed as the #1 airport in the world! That place is amazing! The entire airport is like a 5 star hotel!
airport bathroom
This was the bathroom at the airport! Can you imagine how nice the rest of the airport was! It was so nice that I wanted to hang out there all day!

HONG KONG

Hongkong Team
In Hong Kong I got to spend time with our newly formed team. We got to know each other and also did personal sharing. From left to right we have Judy, Dilys, Lydia and Charles
grandpa house
I also took time to visit my 90 + year old grandma. At her house, I took some pics of my dad and his siblings while they were kids. Can you see the resemblance and guess which one was my dad?!
Simon and markus
I also got to hang out with Markus! I had a great time with Markus and it made me realize I am just one big kid… I had a great time playing cars with him. I don’t know whether he had more fun or I did!… We also took Markus bike riding and we raced… and at least for now… I could still beat Markus in a sprint but it will not be long when he will be biking way faster than me running!

MANILA, PHILIPPINES

Simon in Manila
I spoke to a JAM PACKED crowd at the USANA office in Manila. I shared with them the importance of having a committed vision and how that leads to success
big event
The next day was the BIG EVENT… our annual celebration event. Over 5000 people were in attendance and some people came as early at 430am to line up to get in!

My favorite part of what I do and why I continue to work is to see how I have been able to play a “positive role in as many lives as possible”. It feels great to know the impact that I have played in the lives of thousands in the Philippines. I am just an average person and never would have guessed that people would ask me for autographs… but that is the power when you have a committed vision.
meeting after meeting
Filipinos are SOOO hungry to learn… right after attending an event that lasted from 8:30am to 6pm, we went straight to the MAM (Meeting After Meeting) for another 2 hours of training and sharing!
big session
The last day in the Philippines, we had another big session at the Asian Institute of Management. I was the closing speaker and will have my video posted sometime soon
dinner at greenbelt
Last event of the my trip… a nice dinner at Italia (in Greenbelt 2 in Makati) with Clark and Ian’s team. Italia is now one of my favorite places to eat in Manila. Not only do they have good food but they have FAST wifi!

MAKING AN IMPACT AND CREATING MEMORIES

That was my trip and these pictures basically show you what I do for a living… I mentor and teach people how to improve their lives.  Getting to travel and meeting new friends make it fun but the best part is knowing that I am fulling my purpose in life by playing a “positive role in as many lives as possible”

Now it’s your turn to do something today that will have a positive impact on someone.  If you can’t come up with anything, you can simply smile and spread your positive attitude around!

What a wonderful live! I do wish I could have the same experiment like that. I am a recruitment and sometimes be a trainer but I always have to train the same things (company regulary, allowance, discipline, etc…). It makes me sooooo bored. Could you give me some advise how to be a good trainer (mainly in HR field)?

    Hi Simon,
l still not so clear about your business… Are you being invited by them to give motivational talk or you have some business in Asia whereby they are your partner or downline?

Hi PS, thanks for your comment. To answer your question, the answer is “yes” to both. I am sometimes invited by them to give a motivational talk… and sometimes the training is for my business in Asia for my partners.
