Extending My Comfort Zone
Happy April everyone!
This week went by very quickly since I was out of town for four days in Phoenix, Arizona to attend a major email marketing conference called Infusioncon.
While out of town, I’ve also been busy launching my new training program called Simon Chan’s Insider’s Circle, and getting ready for our first training this week. If you are interested in a FREE TRIAL offer, Click Here to learn more.
By the way, thanks to everyone who offered to help me out after I posted how tough things have been recently. I was very touched by everyone’s concern and kindness! 🙂
You’ll be happy to know that things are better and a little more manageable.
My wife’s parents are back from Hong Kong, and that allowed me to go to Phoenix.
But you know what?!
I am STILL DOING a lot of the things with Ethan that I was doing while they were gone!
I’ve come to enjoy and gotten used to being “outside the comfort zone” with my limited time.
Somehow during this crazy, stressful time, I’ve learned to get more things done in even LESS time.
In other words, I’ve extended my borders, and my old “uncomfortable zone” is now my comfort zone.
March was a brutal month, but I’m happy because I’ve seen myself grow in terms of productivity.
What they say is true. When you are pushed and overwhelmed, that is when you grow!
Morning Routine with Ethan
One of the things that I’ve learned to enjoy is greeting Ethan every morning, changing his diaper, and then giving him his milk.
Afterwards, we sit in the living room, which has transformed into “his room” now, and we eat fruits together.
I’ve been blessed with a baby that loves fruits and vegetables.
I must thank my wife Kelly, too, since she ate a ton of fruit when she was pregnant.
They say that whatever the mom eats when she is pregnant is what the baby will love to eat for the rest of his life.)
On the other hand, Ethan doesn’t like to eat meat much and sometimes I wish he ate a little more of it so that he could get more protein, but hey, I’m not complaining! 🙂
Ethan loves everything from bananas, to strawberries, to apples, to oranges, to grapefruits, to papayas, to blueberries, to grapes and mangos!
I think Ethan enjoys our morning fruit routine because the first things he said when I returned from Phoenix were the words 木瓜 and 芒果 (That is Chinese for papaya and mango.)
Walking Obi with Ethan
After eating some fruits, then we go for our walk with Obi.
That used to be my time to listen to audios for self-development, but I’ve come to enjoy the time (hassle) to get the strollers, bundle Ethan up in sweatshirts and jackets, and then put booties on Obi.
It is a chore, but I’ve learned to enjoy it.
It is another Daddy/ Son moment, and we talk.
We talk about what’s going on in the neighborhood, and as we talk, Ethan gets his daily language lesson.
For every new object I teach him, I teach it to him in Mandarin Chinese, which is what we speak, and then in Cantonese Chinese, and then English. I emphasize Chinese because I’m not worried about English. He will learn that in school.
It’s amazing how babies learn languages so easily.
It’s been really cool to watch Ethan learn to be trilingual everyday!
After Obi’s walk, then Ethan has his “real” breakfast and eats oatmeal.
Last week was another milestone as we gave him baby omega 3 and his kids’ vitamins for the first time!
And… he loved it!
Surrounded by Entrepreneurs
I went to a conference in Phoenix with over 2,000 entrepreneurs.
Each of them earned anywhere from $100,000 to $10 million a year at Infusioncon.
Infusioncon is an email and internet marketing conference that is held every year in Phoenix by a company called Infusionsoft.
Small business owners across all different industries–everyone from plumbers to authors, music teachers to doctors, orthodontists, MLM distributors, etc.–go there to learn how to expand their businesses online.
Infusionsoft’s product, which has the same name as the company, is an advanced email marketing software application, and I use it.
In the online world, it is the #1 solution for online marketing in terms of features and sophistication. The lowest subscription model starts out at $300 a month, and I’ve been using it for over a year.
I love it. It is great for seven-figure businesses, but it would overwhelm a new startup.
One of the things that distributors in MLM don’t realize is that you MUST CONNECT with the prospect’s interests and what motivates him or her.
The more you can “customize” a presentation to a customer’s needs, the greater success you can have.
With this concept in mind, Infusionsoft takes it to another level because you can automate things based on the prospect or customer’s individual preferences.
To give you an example of a very sophisticated email and direct marketing campaign that is powered by Infusionsoft, a very successful orthodontist sends his patients different gifts on the day they get their braces removed. He actually has a system set up automatically where a vendor will send his patient a candy apple in the mail after his or her braces are gone! Think how happy those kids are and how many referrals he gets!
That is just one example. There are many other sophisticated ways to use Infusionsoft.
I’ve been using Infusionsoft for slightly over a year now and the conference was awesome.
Not only did I learn the latest Internet strategies (e.g., how to incorporate Infusionsoft with Facebook marketing), but it was motivating to be in a room with 2,000 entrepreneurs who are positive and go-getters.
No matter how bad the economy or their business is going, there are no complainers or whiners in this group.
For example, it’s motivating to hear about how an orthodontist went from being $1 million in debt to earning over $4 million a year, as well as how he went through many struggles.
It’s all in the mindset.
Successful people take action and focus on their goals.
There were so many motivating moments and lessons I learned, and I will share bits and pieces with you over the next few weeks.
Quarterly Goals
My business partner, Scott McGee, is in town for next few days for our quarterly meetings.
We have these intense quarterly meetings every three months to go over what we have accomplished and set targets for the next 90 days.
We compile a dream list of things we want to achieve, a realistic time frame for each project, and then a very detailed action plan regarding what we will do.
More importantly, we decide what we must GIVE UP to get these things done.
For every new thing we want to accomplish, we must GIVE up something.
Most people fail at their goals because they just write down what they want, failing to realize that there are only 24 hours in day. It’s necessary to GIVE THINGS UP in order to have the time to accomplish new goals.
Time goes by so quickly. It just seems like yesterday that Scott and I met for two intense days to set quarterly goals back in December.
So much has changed… As we reflect and look at our results, we missed many of our targets, but also accomplished many goals.
It’s been very satisfying to go back and review all the things that were done.
Consistently going back and reviewing not only reminds us what we have to stay focused on, but also, it mentally rewards us when we realize how much we have grown.
It makes the journey worth it.
How Are You Doing?
Do you have a “real business?” Do you have quarterly meetings?
Do you go back to your goals consistently and plan for the future?
Planning for the next 90 days is much easier than planning and just writing what you want to accomplish by end of this year.
If you have never done any quarterly goals, then just go back to the goals you set during the New Year.
How did you do?
Reward yourself for what you have accomplished.
And for the things that you failed to achieve, ask yourself what you need to GIVE UP in order to make those goals happen.
Ok… enough writing for this week. It’s time to get back to our quarterly session. Scott and I have two more days to go before we wrap it up and he flies back home.
So things are better, and I’m doing well.
How are you doing this week?
Sincerely,
Simon Chan

Hi
It seems like you going at a terrific speed. Well, I am only an ant compared to the mountain of activities that you are involved in. But still i have other things to do which means alot and is important to me. I am not into business and i am not into money making. All that aspect is over…..I have some dreams to accomplish and that keeps me house-bound and occupied. My cousins grand-son is also called Ethan….and the father is from Canada….I assumed he wants to be a millionaire….i may be wrong…God alone knows. If he has that much of capability then he should also be capable of saving himself.
