I struggle with this a lot… I probably struggle a lot more than you do.
I’m talking about CHANGE and not falling into “routines” and doing things the same way.
I’m probably one of the more disciplined people you will ever meet but while discipline is great, it requires routines… and too many routines causes us not wanting to change.
That is the trap…
And we must be aware of it.
Because Change is the ONLY way we get better.
Change is the ONLY way we get outside our comfort zones.
We must CONSTANTLY CHANGE AND GET BETTER!
I am the World’s MOST Boring Guy
I’m the world’s most boring guy. But at least I admit it.
I like doing the same things, biking down the same paths, doing the same workout routines, ordering the same foods, etc. I think the last 20 times I went to Cheesecake Factory, I ordered Chicken Madeira 19 times.
Yes, I am boring. 🙁
My mom always said that I miss out on life by not trying new things but as long as I am happy isn’t that what is most important?
It is good to be boring… except when it prevents us from changing and getting better.
The BIGGEST mistake you make after a rank advancement
For this post, I’m going to talk about how it affects a network marketing or MLM business but you can apply this lesson to anything. You can apply it any career, sports, music, etc.
One of the biggest mistakes network marketers make is what you do IMMEDIATELY after your advancement.
You rank advanced and you feel good. The natural tendency is to keep doing what you have done before because it is a formula that works right?
Wrong!
You must realize that what you have done is only good enough to get you to that level ONLY.
In order for you to keep growing and advancing you must change things up.
You can no longer do the same things and this is especially true in a MLM organization because the dynamics change every time you add a new distributor and customers. There are more distributors to train and more customers to service so you can NOT be doing the same thing.
Something has to change…
So if you are a Gold Director now and you want to advance to Ruby or Emerald or Diamond… then you use do things DIFFERENTLY.
Change the Specifics!
Of course, you must stick to the 5 Core Production Activities in Network Marketing but the specific things you do has to change.
Maybe you have to…
adopt new systems…
or empower an emerging leader to play a bigger leadership role…
or apply new marketing strategies…
or expanding to new markets…
Don’t fall into the trap of doing the same thing as before!
I am sharing this with you because I have falling into this trap before and was stuck at the same rank for 3 years because I was trying to get new results by doing the same old things that got me into that rank. It just does not work.
You MUST CHANGE!
How to Sustain Growth
In traditional business, a $10 million company can NO longer do the same thing as a startup. Later on when the company reaches $100 million, it can no longer do the same thing as when it was $10 million. Just remember that.
In sports such as basketball… a high school Varsity basketball player can no longer be the same player as he was when he made the team. If he does, he will either get cut or never get any better. He has to learn new skills, adopt new habits and practice differently.
You see this in the NBA all the time. College players that get drafted into the NBA and do the same things never last long. Within 2 – 3 years they are unemployed and replaced by newer and younger players. But the great players constantly reinvent themselves every offseason so that they can get better for next season.
Get in the Habit of Changing
Change may be hard but it can be done. The first step is to be simply aware of it and force yourself to change in all areas of life.
When I first learned to do this I realized that I had been doing the same workout routine for over 5 years! (I told you I was boring). I was in great shape but not getting better. (actually I was getting worse because I was getting older so I was doing the same thing but fighting against an enemy (age) that was getting stronger every day.
So now… I do my best to change up my workout routines. Some days I bike and some days I run. Some days I go to Hermosa Beach to workout and some days I stay in Torrance. That is just one example.
I force myself to constantly change and that forces me to be aware of when I am stuck in routines.
My Latest Growth happened ONLY because I Changed
I recently rank advanced in my MLM business and the only reason was because my partner, Scott McGee forced me to change. He forced me to abandon old marketing strategies and to do things differently online.
It was weird and uncomfortable at first but it was the wakeup call I needed for me to take things to the next level.
And of course… I am now asking myself the new question. What do I need to change now to keep growing cause I can’t be doing the same thing!
What about you?
How do you plan to grow?
What part of your MLM business do you need to change?
Sincerely,
Simon Chan
