Change: Life’s Paradox
Life is a paradox.
We are all born with unlimited potential and can achieve great things, but at the same time, we have instincts that sabotage our success.
It has to do with our primitive, “lizard” brain that holds us back.
One example is in regard to change.
Change is the only way we get better.
It is the only way we can experience new things and enjoy life more.
Change is the only way we let go of the old so that we have room for the new.
Yet, we don’t like change.
We like our routines.
We stick to our beliefs and reject the ideas of others.
Part of success is recognizing what we must do and then doing it, even when we don’t want to do it.
If we want to get better, we must change.
Change Won’t Guarantee the Situation Will Get Better But It Guarantees that YOU Will Get Better
Change doesn’t mean things will get better and, sometimes, the situation will get worse in the short term.
However, what change does ensure is that YOU will definitely get better.
You will be faced with new challenges and learn new things.
It’s during these uncomfortable times that change forces us to grow the most.
The important word there is we GROW.
As long as we grow, eventually our situations will improve.
Think back to anything that you have accomplished in life.
Whether it was taking your first step as a baby, the first time you walked to school without your parents escorting you, learning to live on your own, or accomplishing a business milestone, you had these successes because you changed and did something different.
When we change, we grow and get better.
When we do the same things over and over again, we get worse.
Some of you may think the status quo just means you’re at neutral, but that is incorrect. Everyday you get older. At the same time, someone younger is hungry and willing to take your place.
The status quo is a myth because we are never stagnant. We are constantly either changing for the better or the worse.
Because of competition, the status quo means things are getting worse and you are regressing.
Be mindful to welcome change. It’s the only way we can get better.
How Will You Change This Week?
For this week, go think of three things that you can change.
For most of you, change is hard to embrace, so let me make it easy for you. It doesn’t happen overnight. You have to develop the habit of changing.
The easiest way to get in the habit of making changes is taking baby steps.
It can be as simple as driving home a different way, or adopting a different routine when you wake up in the morning.
The fact that you are changing forces the neurons in your brains to develop new connections, and that is how we get smarter and better.
Embrace change because your future destiny depends on the changes you implement today.
