3 Reasons Why Periscope Can Hurt Your MLM Business
My BS and HYPE radar is on full alert now and it’s really bothering me.
So I have to address this hype about the new Periscope app…
This new Periscope App is pretty cool…
You can easily spend tons of time on it!
There’s all this talk about how it’s the next big thing and how it’s going to explode your MLM business and make you lots of money.
Don’t believe the hype!
Periscope may help your business…
But for most distributors, Periscope will HURT your MLM business and not help it.
It’s just another distraction.
Has Periscope Really Grown Your Business?
I know many people are using Periscope right now but I want to give a reality check here.
Let’s remove the excitement and the shiny object syndrome…
and let’s ask ourself some hard questions.
If you’re using Periscope right now, how much money are you actually making from it?
How many people have you signed up from Periscope?
How much time have you SPENT on it that could have been spent prospecting instead?!
Let’s be honest with yourself.
Please go over these 3 dangers I’m about to share with you and seriously think about the consequences before you invest too much time on this app.
Danger #1: Periscope is Another Distraction
One of the biggest causes of failure to MLM distributors is the lack of focus…
Distributors already know they need to just meet new people, present and follow-up but they don’t do it.
They get distracted with things like…
doing admin work like shuffling busy cards…
spending 8 hours a day on self development…
or
chasing the next shiny new object syndrome that is supposed to fix everything and make them a lot of money.
They do EVERYTHING except for the income producing activities that make them money.
Wasn’t Pinterest supposed to make distributors money?
Wasn’t Twitter supposed to help distributors find tons of prospects?
Yet how many distributors actually make money using those 2 social media platforms?
Even Facebook is a double edged sword.
Facebook is great for prospecting yet…
How many of your downlines are actually prospecting on Facebook versus doing silly stuff that don’t make any money?
C’mon!
Admit it!
Have you ever found yourself clicking on around on profiles and pictures and then realized you just wasted 20 minutes doing nothing that helps your business?!
If you lack ideas on where to find prospects, you can download my free guide on 71 ways where you can find more prospects.
You already have plenty of prospects around you in your everyday life.
Hint: Don’t forget the 1 billion people on Facebook you can already go meet and prospect.
You don’t need Periscope!
Most Distributors Avoid Prospecting
If you’re a MLM leader, pay attention to this rule:
Most distributors will find thousands different things to do OTHER than prospecting.
The main reason they don’t take action is not just because of laziness but because they’re not trained properly and scared of the consequences.
They don’t know how to approach and invite.
By the way, if you’re interested to learn how to easily invite and approach prospects, you’re welcome to join in on my free Sponsoring Workshop webinar.
But most distributors don’t know how to approach and invite so they rather do other easy things that make them no money.
As a leader you must do your best to LIMIT the distractions so that your downlines can focus on the 5 Core Daily Production activities that help make them money.
You want MLM distributors everyday to:
1) add new people to their contact list
2) show the plan to new prospects
3) follow-up with old prospects
4) invest time in self development
5) communicate with their team
Notice what’s NOT on the list is setting up a new app or get caught watching the latest streamed video.
Periscope is just another distraction.
I want my downlines to be prospecting and presenting!
The last thing I want distributors do is to setup an app and then waste time clicking and watching live streamed videos of random stuff.
Now you may say that they may meet some prospects on Periscope…
Yes… but there ALREADY have so many places to meet prospects such as local community, Facebook, etc.
If you want ideas where you can meet prospects, go download my free guide on 71 Ways to Sponsor More Distributors.
Hasn’t Youtube videos been a distraction already?
Periscope is just like Youtube.
You can meet prospects on Youtube as well but at what cost?!
Chances are your downlines are wasting more time on Youtube than talking to prospects and the same will happen when they get on Periscope.
Why would you want your downlines to lose even more focus?
Danger #2: Chasing Too Many Solutions
People keep chasing the next shiny object instead of focusing on mastering what’s in front of them.
The solution to a MLM distributor’s lack of success is not the lack of solutions but the lack of mastery of a solution.
I’ll give you some examples from my success.
I didn’t go chase and expand to 10 different countries at the same time.
For each market that I excelled in was because I focused on 1 country at a time.
I also became excellent at Facebook marketing because I invested tremendous amounts of time and money to learn how Facebook advertising works.
I didn’t overextend myself by doing newspaper ads, Twitter ads, Linkedin Ads, Pinterest marketing, etc.
All I focused on was Facebook and got really good at it.
And as a result, I’ve built three successful brands (my MLM business, my coaching business and MLM NATION) through Facebook marketing.
I’m not here to brag because I’ve made my share of mistakes.
I’m sharing with you the mistakes I made.
There was a time where I got super ambitious and wanted to expand into Mexico since I knew a lot of Mexican immigrants in Los Angeles.
But when I did that, I lost focus and it actually hurt my USA and Asian businesses.
If you want to be excellent you must focus and be master one tool whether it is Facebook, Twitter, local networking, etc.
If you want to be GREAT and dominant, you choose 1 thing and focus on just that 1 thing.
If you want to be a MLM Legend, one pick one skill and be super good at it. In his book, Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell states that you need to invest 10,000 in a skill before you become great.
The key is FOCUS!
The reality is you already have the solution that will help you become successful but you’re not focusing on it.
Every single second spent on Periscope is a second away from what you know you should already be doing.
Your downlines already have the tools and support to become successful.
So why are you introducing something like Periscope that will just distract them from their focus?
Chances are they’re on Facebook and I’d rather have them get really good at Facebook prospecting instead of wasting time to get Periscope all setup.
Danger #3: MLM Success is About Event Attendance
Success in MLM is about events.
It’s simple as that.
And as a leader you know that.
The more downlines you get to an event, the more successful they will become and the more money you will earn.
Whether it is home meetings, regional events or annual conventions, MLM is about events.
There is a saying that you will earn an additional $1,000 the upcoming year for every downline that attends to your company annual convention.
There is magic at events and why every distributor MUST attend their company’s annual convention.
It’s not just about the trainings but the social proof and energy of having so many like minded people all in the same place.
MLM can get lonely when none of your friends “are in” and it seems like you’re the only person in the planet that joined.
But your belief, motivation and feelings about the business immediately change once you see a whole room or stadium of distributors all pursuing what’s you’re in.
NOTHING can substitute the experience of attending a live event.
It’s the same reason why Tony Robbin’s doesn’t stream his events.
Cause he knows nothing replaces the live experience.
It’s the same reason why blockbuster movies like Star Wars are not streamed on Netflix when they come out.
The studios make you go to the theatre because they know nothing replaces the experience of watching a film with other people.
Same goes for your MLM events.
So why jeopardize that by using Periscope to stream your trainings?
When people watch a training at home, do you think they will pay as close attention as if they were at the live event?
Of course not!
They can be on Facebook, have the TV on or doing all other types of things… they won’t be giving you their undivided attention!
Periscope Gives Them An Excuse Not To Attend Live Events
Understand that most distributors “don’t have much money” and always come up with excuses to attend events.
But this is what happens when you start streaming your training events.
Why attend a home meeting training when I can watch it on Periscope?
Why attend a regional or annual Convention when I can have my friend go on my behalf and stream it?
I’m warning you.
Once you get on Periscope and start streaming, you’ll see attendance at your events drop.
And when event attendance drops, your income will DROP.
Do you now see the folly of streaming on Periscope?!
Now you may say streaming is good for the people who can’t make it.
True.
But it’s better for them to watch a recording because if you make the mistake and do a live stream, then even the people who CAN ATTEND will decide to watch it at home instead of being there live.
Don’t make the streaming option available!
Trust me and you won’t regret it.
Let Others Be the Guinea Pigs
Last thing, most people who are preaching about Periscope have NEVER earned a penny using it to build their MLM business.
It’s all based on the “potential” and speculation.
For a select few, can Periscope help?
Yes.
But for most distributors and leaders, Periscope will hurt your business more than help it.
Does it mean that Periscope may NEVER help you become successful.
No.
But right now it’s not proven and your time is too valuable to waste on promoting something that is unproven.
Instead of wasting time to figure Periscope out, use that time to talk to more people and build your business!
If it does turn out to be something that really works, then it’s never too late to focus on it later.
For now…
You already have the solutions and know what you need to do to build a successful MLM business.
Don’t be distracted.
Instead focus on what you’re currently doing and keep promoting your live events.
Forget the BS and HYPE about Periscope.
I may be wrong and only time will tell.
But 2 years from now when you realize that Periscope has been just another distraction, don’t forget that you heard it from me first.
If I were you, I’d let others be the guinea pigs first.
Do you agree with me?
I’m interested in what you think so please comment below.

Thanks for sharing. The thing with Periscope is that it's "on demand" so the broadcast is available only during limited times. It's another thing that demands "instant attention" before it's gone.
You are right though. It does have many benefits but the cons outweigh the benefits.
Only time will tell but if people can prove me wrong and we have more MLM success stories than failures, I would be super happy. I'd love for people to disagree and prove me wrong and become successful! 🙂

I agree!

Periscope is the best way of building a loyal following fast. 20 million users in 7 months makes it the fastest growing social network on history and you're dead wrong saying it is just like youtube.
