I wanted to help a friend and buy her MLM product to support her but her website ruined the sale.
She’s probably not reading this so I’m going to share openly what happened.
Ellen (not her real name) is a friend from church and at a recent BBQ she talked about these oils that she would rub on her toddlers that helped her kids stay healthier than others.
That immediately got my attention since I’m always looking to do the best for my children and also always support the MLM profession.
I’m always seeking ways to give back to the MLM community by buying MLM products.
If I use a product and there is one made by a MLM company versus one I can get at the store, I always go with the MLM one.
Anyhow, back to the story…
Why Your MLM Company Website May Be Killing Your MLM Business
I wanted to learn about the products and buy some so she sent me this website.
When I saw this, and I was like… where do I start?
Where I do click?
The site is VERY interesting and I started to click around but there was so much info!
and then I got distracted and had to go.
My 2 young boys were doing dangerous things that boys like to do (like jumping down the stairs) and I had to go settle things down.
Once the boys settled down, I brushed their teeth, read to them and put them to bed.
Then I had to plan my day and went to bed and the next day I realized that I totally forgot to help my friend!
I was busy with interviews for MLM NATION and didn’t have time to go back to the site.
It’s been DAYS and I still haven’t ordered the product.
Just thinking about that frustrates me because I wanted it to be simple process but instead I got overwhelmed with info.
The big reason I haven’t ordered yet is because too much info makes it hard for people to purchase.
Just thinking about going through the website and all the types of products turns me off.
Have you ever wanted to buy something and make it quick but you got thrown into a big mess?
I felt I literally just wanted to give money away to get a product but instead the website wouldn’t take my money!
Unfortunately my friend’s mistake is a big reason why MLM distributors fail to attract leads online.
They are using the wrong type of websites!
Why MLM Company Websites Do Not Attract Leads
When I use the term “mlm company website”, that means the website that your company gives you for being a distributor.
All these are template sites and some companies offer them for free while others charge a monthly fee for them.
Here is the news for you.
The MLM company website is EXTREMELY poor at converting potential prospects to leads or converting interested prospects to customers.
If you want to attract leads online or get new prospects become interested in your products, you can NOT send people to a MLM company website.
Here are 5 Reasons Why MLM Company Websites Don’t Attract Leads
Reason 1: Provide Too Much Info
There is too much information on MLM company sites and it is not targeted to a specific interest.
Your prospects will click around and then they will get lost.
People spend an average of less than 20 seconds (Source: Hubspot 2014) on a site because they click off so you must capture their attention band get them to take action and fill out a contact form before you lose them
Too much information also confuses prospects.
The rule is people don’t take action when they are confused.
Confusion and overwhelm causes paralysis.
Just think about yourself.
Every time you feel overwhelmed or not clear on something, you won’t continue to act or pursue a product.
You need simple web pages called landing pages that create curiosity and convert well.
Reason 2: Does Not Provide Specific Message to Targeted Audience
MLM company sites have way too many links and because of that, they don’t provide you the flexibility to target specific audiences.
To be effective in online marketing you have speak the language of a specific audience.
That simply means to provide specific information for a specific target audience.
Give the bait that the fish want to eat.
Here is a great example of what a good landing page that attracts leads
Reason 3: Too Much Info Destroyed Curiosity
Because company websites provide too much info, prospect are not eager to learn more.
Remember this important rule. More info is NOT better.
When you provide too much information, it destroys curiosity
When you provide just a tease, then people become interested and want to learn more.
We see this concept in everyday life such as movie trailers.
Trailers provide only a few exciting scenes so that you want to go watch the movie. They don’t reveal who the characters are and what happens. They show just a few scenes.
I teach the same concept in my Sponsoring Workshop webinar. You don’t want to reveal too much information when you initially invite and approach a prospect.
If you talk too much and tell your prospect everything, then your prospect will never be interested to watch an online presentation or attend a meeting because they feel they “know everything already” and “won’t have time.”
Reason 4: No Clear Call To Action
The worse part of MLM company sites is that there is no CLEAR call to action.
Just look at these 2 examples. If you were interested do you know what to do next?
Compare this to these simple landing pages from top earners that attract leads
Reason 5: Can’t Have Multiple Versions
Marketing is about providing specific information related to a specific target audience.
For example, if you were interested to purchase a sports car, you would not be interested to look at a website about minivans!
To be really successful with online marketing you need different websites for different target audiences.
The business opportunity website should be different than the ones that potential customers visit.
You can even break down the customers further by creating different web pages for different products.
For example, you can have one website targeting people who want to lose weight and another one targeting people who are interested in supplements, etc.
Here are more examples of distributors being very specific with their marketing by using effective landing pages:
Here’s an example of a web page for travel
A web page targeted to people interested in supplements
A web page targeted to people interested in skin care.
You want as many different versions as possible. The ideal world is 1 web page for each type of product or service.
MLM company websites fail to allow you to do that.
There’s always a limit on the number of sites you can have.
Remember, you need specific websites for specific audiences.
The best part is that online marketing is a lot easier now and you can create different landing page websites in under 30 minutes.
If you have some experience, I created a video tutorial on how you can create one in just 5 minutes and 13 seconds.
Examples of What Works and Doesn’t Work
Let me share with you some examples of sites that attract leads and don’t.
Which website will get a prospect to take action?
This company site that contains all the info in the world
Here is a site that does it the CORRECT WAY. It is from a leader from the same company but he does it right.
The websites that are working well are called landing pages and you must have one.
How Top Leaders are Using Landing Pages
Top MLM leaders such as Max Knowles and Alex Morton are using all simple websites that are called “landing pages” to attract leads online.
Max Knowles is a 7 figure income earner and here is his site
Here is the website of a multiple six figure earner, Alex Morton
The best part is that these web pages can also be used to send people if you meet people offline.
If my friend Ellen had given me a landing page about products for kids instead of her MLM company site, I’d have been a customer by now already.
The Only Benefit of Your MLM Company Site
Before you ditch your MLM company website I want to add one thing.
Your MLM company website is good for one thing and only one thing only; Follow-up
It’s a good tool to send prospects AFTER they have viewed a presentation because it provides info and also builds the belief that this is a real business with a professional website.
Your MLM company website is good for follow-up but AWFUL for initial lead generation.
Hopefully you’ve never make the mistake of advertising and promoting your MLM company website because you’ll lose tons of money.
Next Steps
If you are really serious about attracting leads online or have a professional website that makes your warm markets curious about what you do…
You MUST get at least 1 – 2 landing pages setup.
The good news is you can get these done very easily now in under 30 minutes. Go and read this blog post that features a step by step video tutorial.
Remember, MLM company websites are good for follow-up only. If you want to attract prospects, make sure you have simple landing pages setup instead.
